I think the staff should take Silas and end the class with Hatcher.
They will add a true Junior to the backfield which is much needed, and honestly if USC is out of it for VH3 and Willis than I'd rather see them use the roster spot to add someone who can really contribute this year and help USC win a NC.
That is not a knock on any of the other elite DB's in this recruiting cycle either. I would love for USC to sign all of them. But if im LK I'd seriously think about that scenario.
My assumption would be that USC would be at 74 next year. The rule that is stated you have to give up a spot the next year. I don't think that changes because redd stays 1 year
I would assume that the staff would have gotten clarification on this before going after this kid. If they're recruiting him somebody must have given them the ok. I doubt they'd waste their time if they were going to get denied.
That would be like an additional penalty on USC.
USC should be able to accept transfers like any other program as long as they follow the same rules, but do it around 75/15.
We would still have to reduce our offers so we have 74 next year.
I don't get the impression he's an NFL lock as a JR, though. Good player that would really help us under the circumstances.
Agree, but this has happened so fast, I get the impression the NCAA is making decisions on the fly.
+1. Let's end the rebuilding this year with a national championship.
Lol. Isnt that their M.O.? Make shit up as they go
Consider the source, but this just in on the PSU board:
"For The Glory, Of Old State
Just heard from source who has spoken with someone close to #PennSt RB Silas Redd that there is "no chance" he transfers"
One team has already backed out from recruiting him."
The news broke an hour ago, there is a chance it happens. Penn state fans don't want to believe it
Will this effect our two RB recruits this year?
Redd is a junior, so no.
Probably not. If Redd comes and stays through his SR year, they would still have 3 years or could redshirt.
Coming in and starting at the D1 level as a true frosh is tough...but they would still have an opportunity to beat him out for playing time.
I don't see how it would. I'm assuming at least one of them will redshirt so if Redd would decide to stay for his senior season it wouldn't effect that candidate. As far the one not redshirting I don't see them coming in as a true freshman and getting significant playing time considering the fact that USC will have Morgan, Allen, Madden, and the possibility of Redd.
But than again Madden will be coming off an injury, and Morgan and Allen have yet to prove they can be the feature back. They both both will have the chance this year though.
There are Pros/Cons to getting Redd as far as our current RB commits are concerned, but i think the Pros outweigh the Cons and Isaac/Davis will stick. You never know though with the way recruiting is going these days.
I don't believe he counts against year 1 totals but he will count against next year.
Potholes for us, Pensions for them
@laars Huh? Moody is a Senior. He'll be gone when Davis/Isaac enroll.

I rather USC not take him. A scholarship is important I want to use it on a player who will play at least three seasons. I do not want the roster at 74 players.
Would be a great pickup.
Pete took a run at him and he had some interest, but in his heart he was a Nittany Lion from jump.

Based on the NCAA statement if USC took Redd this year and played at 76, they could only play at 74 in the following year. If USC plays at 75 with Redd this year, next year they are able to stay at 75.
Either way, Redd would count as an initial counter and limit USC to 17 incoming players.
i just watched his highlights, damn he some quick feet
