What is happiness? The feeling that power is growing, that resistance is overcome.--Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche
Would be shocked if new coach was not offered $2M+. O'Neill was over $1.5M.
Go visit Shaka Smart. Ask him how much he want's, write the check and bring him back. Love the way he coaches and he's young enough to be around for a good long time. Sure he would recruit the hell out of California too.
Shaka is making $1.2M at VCU. So, I would think we would need to offer at least $1.8M to get him to listen. We're not Duke, as far as basketball lineage, but we are a step up from VCU. Shaka would be one of my top targets.
Shaka turned down $2.5 from Illinois last year.
Then offer him $3.5 per for 25 years.
O'Neil made $2M a year. Add in the endorsements that will come from shoe companies and other things for being in LA. We could get a good coach.
I know some are down on Dixon, yet he is a good coach. He is from LA originally. His wife is from LA. His parents are in LA.
Pittsburg is coooooold.
I bet he would be interested in LA.

Kurt Sydner. LA Lakers asst coach. Former Mizzou coach that took them to the toufney. Coached D League ball and now coaches Kobe and the gang. That will sell well with recruits.
Something so inspiring and beautiful about how Shaka leads his team. I don't know the X's and O's of basketball much, but every time I've seen this guy he is pumped and so is his team. He gets them to play for VICTORY!

Quinn snyder. now coaching in Russia i believe. he quit the lakers or was let go after last season
Whoa. did anyone hear what Wilbon said about KO on PTI? said something along the lines that no athletic director or president at any university in their right mind should EVER hire KO as a head coach for their basketball team.
Meanwhile in the Twitter world:
@TheFakeESPN: USC fires basketball coach Kevin O'Neill as practice round for Lane Kiffin.”
Lots of Kiffin jokes being thrown around by the haters in the Twitter-verse.
this will be Haden's first big hire. lets see how he does....
Let's be honest, we aren't getting Shaka Smart. Dude could have had the Illinois job and he turned it down.
As great and storied as SC athletics are, we are not a basketball school. We have no basketball tradition, no strong lineup of players. We can't pay our players, so we can't just get Calipari and call it a day.
The one real advantage we have over other schools is money, but that's only going to go so far.
I guess what I'm saying is, I don't expect SC to make a flashy hire. I think the best case scenario is that Haden finds a hungry and unproven coach who wants the challenge of building something out of nothing. Do that, and maybe in three years we can field a competitive team.
There's no way we're getting a Shaka Smart or a Brad Stevens.
Wasn't Frank Cruz supposed to be a "big" hire?
USC is a sleeping giant in basketball. The location, education, facilities, and potential just hasn't been tapped...Floyd was going in that direction but was cut short.
Get the right coach and look out...
