Bob Cantu will take over as the interim head coach.

Big Balls Haden!!!!
Having been fired before, I have to sympathize with Kevin O'Neil, but I also have to thank Haden for doing what was necessary.
Here's the link from the USC page:
USC men's basketball head coach Kevin O'Neill has been removed from the position as the search for the program's next head coach begins. In the interim, lead assistant Bob Cantu will take over the Trojans. Here is the official release from...
Sucks, but it had to happen.
Anyone with strong opinions on who SC should go after? I'd love to go after Alford or Randy Bennett
On a show cause still
Wow. I'm extremely surprised, especially given the almost flawless performance against Utah. Our kids play with a lot of heart and seem to respect and listen to KO. I hope the O'neill haters are right -- I'd love nothing more than to take this program to the next level.
Butler HC: Start here!
Consider Here...Russ Pennell: Currently the HC @ Grand Canyon University in AZ. Former assistant on Lute's staff in AZ so he is familiar with the conference and west coast recruiting. GCU will be joining the WAC next next season.
Outstanding! Never thought Haden had the spine to get it done.
Don't worry, J...you'll have something to moan about soon enough.
The New Mexico coach.
Best case is if USC hires a coach somewhat quick to start the recruiting process.
Im sure they have a few coaches in mind.
USC hires a new coach by early March. Let Cantu coach the last few games as the new coach watches, checking out what he has to work with for next season.
Of course that wont work if the new coach is a current coach somewhere else.
REALLY hope we get a solid name that can recruit like crazy...like those 4 FUN FUN years under Tim Floyd!!
"Coach K, Phil Jackson, Red Auerbach!"
(You know who you are)
What about Shaka Smart from VCU?
Dude is 93-31 in 3 1/2 years at VCU, has taken the Rams to 2 straight NCAA tourneys including a Final Four.
Sure, this may be a big step up for him, but if he is dominating at VCU, imagine what he could do with the resources of USC.
Smart and Stevens seem to both be holding out for real big time Duke-level jobs.
today i will use all of my daily upvotes in this thread
What is happiness? The feeling that power is growing, that resistance is overcome.--Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche
Can't find my post from last week, but i asked what would happen first - KO fired or a new DC....
Looks like it was KO.
Shaka Smart and Brad Stevens are longshots but I think you have to start there. People close to Smart think he is holding out for one of the big jobs on the east coast like 'Cuse. Stevens is thought by many as the best game coach in the country. He is a midwestern boy though and I'm not sure LA is really a fit for him. Pastner, Dixon, and Bennett at St. Mary's are probably more realistic candidates.
We are right.
Do you remember the Tim Floyd years? The Pac Ten Conference Champions? Awesome recruiting classes that gave you hope? The sweet sixteen appearances? All of the current SC players in the NBA recruited by Tim Floyd. The commitment of lottery pick Derrick Williams? I just gave you a hint of what can happen with the right coach.
Now go out there and hire either the VCU coach,Pastner or Reggie Theus .All three can recruit and play an up tempo game needed to attract real players into this program.

He would have taken the job in '09 if not for the uncertainty surrounding pending sanctions.
Hell no! His brand of BB is boring and he tends to choke in big games.
I wasn't as thrilled with the Floyd years as most. I was pumped to sign guys like Demar and OJ, and you're spot on about the hope that type of recruit can inspire. I just don't feel we accomplished a hell of a lot for having 2-3 1st-round picks on every TF roster.
That being said, with 10 losses already, I'm not opposed to a change at all -- I hope we can get the kind of coach we deserve.
how does he choke? i thought players tend to choke
