Wow Memphis gets to one title game, which has since been removed, and all of a sudden being a Top 25 team isn't good enough anymore.
Pastner would be a great hire.
Although Dixon wouldn't be my first choice (Smart would), Dixon would be an exponential improvement over the last few years.
Also- if Lane has a bad year and Haden starts looking for a new football coach, I hope he follows the same pattern he did with basketball and starts with a guy they tried to hire last time- Chris Petersen.
nice to see you back here...
what has pastner done since replacing calipari at memphis? i guess he can recruit. can he coach?
What is happiness? The feeling that power is growing, that resistance is overcome.--Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche
I guess I don't look at Memphis as a top job, Calipari took it to its highest point, and the school was quickly put on probation.
Memphis ain't firing Pastner. He is bringing in another great recruiting class and when they hired him they knew they were getting a coach that was going to learn on the job. They also knew his recruiting would be great, as it has been, which has allowed him to endure growing pains while still having success.
The biggest problem with the Memphis job is conference affiliation. If they were in the SEC it would be the 2nd best job in that conference, behind UK. They have great fans, sell out all their games, pretty good hoops talent in the area, and they have backing from the FedEx family.
You are right, conference affiliation is a huge issue, I do wonder with all the realignment why they can't get to the A-10 at least. I do think Florida is a better job, but it would be no worse than the 3rd.
2nd Round should set up a nice coaching matchup- Dixon vs Few and I'm giving the nod to Dixon.
OK, let's see. If we can pick up Dixon, which comes first, an NC in football or an NC in b-ball?
Ladies and gentlemen, the unbelievable has happened! Tom Kelly - November 28,1964. (84-Z Delay)
I think Memphis being a basketball school and in a somewhat legitimate city gives it the nod. Well, that, and their fans travel really, really well. But, I totally see why people would think Florida is a better job even if Memphis was in the SEC.
san rado @titheo95 3h
@PittScriptLogo they're saying on inside college basketball that Jamie Dixon is gonna take the USC job. 25 million, 10 years
Pitt Script Logo @PittScriptLogo 2h
@titheo95 seems legit to me
And the chit chat continues to heat up.
No way he is there 10 years, either he does poorly and is let go or he is great and moves on to greener pastures.
This is what Andy Katz said on Sunday "USC has the potential to be a coaching domino. If I'm AD Pat Haden, I'm calling Josh Pastner of Memphis with his West Coast ties and unbridled optimism. I don't think Pitt's Jamie Dixon would go West"

Right now, Josh Pastner's attention is squarely on the NCAA tournament. The 35-year-old is coming off a season where he led Memphis to a 30-4 record a
I think the second guy was being sarcastic.
But the buzz keeps buzzing.
Jeff Goodman from CBS said on the Big Lead podcast he expects Dixon to take the USC job. Andy Katz says he doesn't. Take it FWIW, but those are two actual sources as opposed to random folks on Twitter.
Totally unsubstantiated and rumors are just wishful thinking. I'll believe it when it is confirmed.
The SC job is about lifestyle, not challenge for any high profile coach. If the numbers are close to being accurate as to what we'll pay, how can you trust the motives of the coach?
I may be inclined to rather have a guy who wants to ultimately coach at Kentucky, Duke, or Kansas. At least we know we have motivation being the big paycheck at USC.
Charlie Weis contract.
I spoke to Ron Holmes,Jacques Hill and some older ex Trojan baseball player who received an award at halftime of the championship game. They're mentioned the same coaches in Floyd,Dixon,Alford and Tubby Smith.I can't remember the name of the fifth coaching candidate.
I'd personally offer Sharka,Alford or Floyd the SC BB job.I don't know what the big attraction is with Dixon. His teams are boring and always underachieve.I guess anything is better than O'Neal.
Note:I spoke to Arizona's FB coach Rodriguez for about 15 minutes at the MGM, and he flat out said the 2012 SC football team was dripping with talent. He can't figure out how SC lost six games."People don't have a clue how much freakin talent they have at that school".
The Pac Ten tournament needs to stay at the MGM!
Boy, are you in the wrong place.
Just another comment by the poster that must have been "overlooked" before hitting the post reply button.

Ooooh. Didn't even think of Tubby Smith. If he dumps fUcla, let's hire him.
Do not want.
Standing in that line, too.
