"I've been here awhile and I want to get my degree," he said. "And I want to keep going to USC and play football with these guys."
Love this kid.
Junior cornerback wants to see 'just how they see me at the next level,' but says he is leaning toward staying at USC.
"Here are provided seats of meditative joy, where shall rise again the destined reign of Troy." Virgil
They all say that early on.
Winning the academic award in the SEC is sort of like winning the special olympics. Even if you win, you are still a retard.
If Nickell had the same season this year he had in 2011, he'd probably be gone -- simply from a football perspective.
Really happy for him that he is diligent about earning his degree, as well as the lean towards returning.
He's the center piece of the secondary if he returns, which will really assist the incoming class of DBs.
Tremendous young man and fine ambassador of the university, too.
Guess it all depends on the evaluation he gets back from the NFL. If not as high as he hoped, I'd get that degree.
Obvious question, but he is on track to graduate next year or this Spring/Summer?
He could pull a Cushing and get the pro paycheck and take a class or two in the off-season to finish up the degree.
I think he definitely realizes the need for a degree; he might be able to cover Welker, but I don't ever see him going up against Megatron. He can still be successful in the pros, and I know he has the drive, but without that #1 money over 10-15 years, he's going to need to plan for his future.
Remember this year's seniors and redshirt juniors are the AMAZING Trojans who committed to USC AFTER Pete left, and in the case of some like Wright, committed to a coachless school before Lane was hired. Trojans through and through!
Some of those guys who might start next year with a desire to win it all...

Could always go to the NFL and part time school in the off season. i believe that is what Brian Cushing and others did.
Thank you for reminding us ...They are the AMAZING Trojans...and will forever be my favorite class...Fight On!
"It's what a brother would do for another brother"
If Nickell returns, I hope we don't go out of our way to make him an award finalist.
I think we put too much on the Barkley-Heisman campaign instead of just playing football.
If Robey comes back and plays great at CB and the team does well, the awards will come.
Regardless, I do hope he returns. The team could REALLY use him. But if he does leave, he was a great Trojan through and through.
Certainly one way to go....Troy accomplished the same, too.
In addition at the end of the article it mentions the sick boy Cody Kessler befriended has died. Sincere condolences to you Cody and to all of Nathan's friends and family. Cody you made for some special times for him and that is something we are all proud of you for.
I hope Nickell stays but he's gotta do what is best for him...He'll succeed in the NFL
I can't see his draft stock getting any higher unless he returns both punts and kickoffs next year and does well. Right now I'd say he's a 2nd or 3rd rounder simply bcuz of his size.
And to the guy who said he can't cover megatron, as long as stafford is throwing the ball to him he can
Would LOVE to have him back! What a potentially awesome piece of news! Thanks Mama L!
Join the fight for YOUR liberty!
If our coverage on the opposite side improves significantly next year his stock just might get a chance to go up. If QB's are forced to try his direction more often Robey may just end up with a substantially more impressive highlight reel by the end of the season.
I'd love to see him play in South Bend one more time. Worked out last time.....game sealing pick!

I heard today from someone that it looks like Robey, Breslin and 3 other juniors are leaving?
Does anyone have more info?
"...an economy hampered by restrictive tax rates will never produce enough jobs or enough profits" JFK
that would be terrible news...hope it's just a bad rumor.
I have some info. Your source is on drugs. That is all.
Silas is staying. And no way Breslin leaves.
I like you.
The only way I see Breslin leaving is if there's an academics issue.
I agree. The issue Robey has in the NFL draft is his listed size of 5'8" 165 pounds. I don't doubt his coverage skills or speed, but his size puts him in the 5th or 6th round unless he grades out as truly elite and physical. A sub 4.4 40 time may get him into the 3rd round, but short CBs in the 1st and 2nd rounds are usually over 185 pounds.
You won't find many successful NFL CBs who are shorter than 5'10" and weigh less than 180 pounds. In the past 25 years, the most successful is probably Cortland Finnegan and he was a 7th round draft pick.
Winning winners who win > whining whiners who whine.
Anyone remember HOF Darrel Green "aka the ageless wonder"of the Washington Redskins? Listed at 5`9 180 he is actually smaller than listed as most football players are.google him .and theres only 1 megatron in the NFL

No Excuses,'' 11 x National Campions anyday, anytime ,anywhere.
Maybe only one Megatron, but there is also one Andre Johnson, one Dez Bryant, one Julio Jones, one Brandon Marshall, one AJ Green, one Roddy White, etc....
His strengths are his cover skills and speed, but his biggest weakness I see is his lack of size/strength. This year I really noticed when he would struggle on tackles in run support, i think a guy his size might struggle even more in that area in the NFL.
