SS: do you agree that it appears Woody is gone?
My mistake Scott. Please delate
Mr. Woods is my favorite player on this team.
My wish is for him to tear it up against GT....and then declare for the draft. I would love for him to show every single team that passes him up in the draft just how great of a receiver he truly is. IMO, we haven't seen a better all around WR than Robert Woods at USC.
I think it probably wouldn't be a great idea for him to stay. I don't know that he can improve his draft stock anymore next year as he's still going to be competing with Lee for touches and now he's going to be doing so with a new QB. Wittek will not have nearly as many pass attempts as Barkley did this year or last year. Worse yet is that Marqise is likely to come out next draft cycle and Woods still has the possibility of being the top receiver this year. Even with Woods' less than ideal draft grade, I think a team will likely take a chance on him in the first round because of the production he had in 2011. That and he'll have the combine to improve his stock although I don't think his numbers will blow anyone away. He isn't one of those freaky athletic type guys, his advantages is that he's more cerebral and polished than others. If he gets on the field early for an NFL team it's because he can pick up the play book and will be dependable to run precise routes and not put the ball on the ground. At least one of the NFL gms should see this and will want to take him over an less polished guy that will put up crazy numbers on combine day.
Tweet from Scott...Which USC WR will step up in 2013 with Robert Woods likely headed to the NFL after this season? He will announce after the Sun Bowl Dec. 31.

To play devil's advocate, wouldn't it be better for the team if Woods did leave?
Right now, there are only 13 Seniors graduating and (potentially) 18 incoming Freshmen. That would mean 5 other kids would need to leave to free up enough scholarship slots. Also, by Woods leaving, it opens the door for Agholor to start and Blackwell/Farmer/etc to vie for the #3 WR spot.
Trust me, I think we're better with Lee/Woods/Agholor as our #1-3, but we need to get the other WR's involved too.
Such a tough decision for Woody. Hopefully he makes the best decision for himself.
Though history has not been kind to USC juniors returning for their senior year (ML, MB7, etc), I do not believe Robert was fully recovered this past season and did not exhibit the separation skills he so easily demonstrated his Freshman year. Of course an exceptional Sun Bowl and NFL draft camp performances would change the equation. He is prob is not projected to be the top receiver in this class at this time.
Freedom through Vigilance
If Woods stays you best believe that one or two WRs are going to transfer
Especially when you consider that we have 3 incoming Freshmen WR's too.
He's gone. And it's too bad. I remember watching Woody at the Hawaii game two years ago....he was awesome, and brand new.
Never got the idea that CLK handled having two exceptional WR very well this year in terms of sharing the ball and speaking to the press. CLK repeatedly said ML9 may be the best ever at SC and to me, that was a minor PR gaffe. RW2 could have easily been the best ever at SC especially after carrying this team his freshman year.
In the end, there is no doubt that this year was a disservice to Woody as the offensive focus this year did not fully harness him or ALL of the WR/TE corps. Is it MB7 or CLK, I don't know. Hope Woody finds a better home in the nfl.
