I believe that the coaching staff at USC does not negatively recruit. However, would it be ok to negatively recruit only when talking about the academic benefits at USC compared to other schools when appropriate? We can win a lot of those battles. Feel free to comment.

By "negatively recruit", do you mean talking bad about other schools? I think every school does that, even ours. For example, Coach O is probably reminding EVD that UCLA and ND, the two schools at which Eddie is currently looking, run a base 3-4 defense, even though he's better suited for a 4-3 defense. I suppose that can count as negative recruiting, seeing as how it's pointing out the drawbacks of going to other schools.
We don't need to negative recruit when talking about academics.
We don't need to say that school doesn't have this or doesn't have that. We just tell them what USC can offer.
If another school can offer more academically then so be it.
