Devon Kennard may have torn his peck muscle and will have surgery next week. He could be out for the season.
That is awful news. How long does it take to heal pectoral muscles?
Do you know how it happened Scott?
Fight On! Leave No Doubt.
It depends on the type of tear - but by the time he heals he's going to have lost a lot of strength as it is. If it's a true tear he won't be the same player for at least a year.
Cry Havoc; and let slip the dogs of war!
What can you really say? Other then get better kennard and have a speedy recovery, everythough this fvckin sucks dodo.
"Everyday is a Great day to be a Trojan"
"Unless your the other team"
I will expand on what you said. This site has information on pectoral muscle tears http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/top/news?slug=ycn-10196655
This injury just happened a couple days ago to Cal OL Dominic Galas, chance he could be back in 3 months.
The fact that he is having surgery tells you all you need to know.
It's gonna be several months before he's cleared - and he's going to have had 3 - 4 months of muscle atrophy to work through. Unless it's not as bad as surgery would indicate, he's done for the year. Nothing he can do. Might be ready to contribute for a bowl game.
This REALLY hurts us.
Speedy recovery, Kennard. Time for the young DEs to step up.
Damn... tough break if true. Hard working young man, who was primed for a big year.
Fight On DK!
Yeah, no way around it, this is devastating for both Devon and the football program. My best guess is Breslan and Townsend start the year as the 2-3 with Williams making a move as the season progresses. Man, I hope the secondary is markedly improved, which I think they will be.
Will he medical redshirt? Since he's working on his masters, what would be the odds of him returning for 2013?
I think the starting two will be Horton/Breslin with Towsend/Greene/Williams and even Christian Thomas getting some reps now. Also if we get up big in games, would be a good time to put in guys like Burks and DeVante Wilson
Same thing Lofa did on Sunday
What a great kid
oh wow. my friend on the team said that Kennard strained something while working out in the weight room earlier today. didn't know it was this bad...
Damn, this sucks. Silver lining; he has yet to use his redshirt, so if he's not hearing good news from NFL scouts - after potentially missing the whole season - he can always return and help the 2013 team go back-to-back. Obviously we'd love for him to be able to contribute this year, though.
Hopefully Morgan Breslin is ready to go.
Expect a lot more blitzing from the corners and OLB now.
Alabama guy here, hate to hear about Kennard. For a recovery perspective, Mark Barron tore his pec during the Auburn
Game, late November, 2010. He was no contact all through the spring, 2011. Hoping for a speedy recovery for DK.
Fight On Devon!
We have the best back 7 in the country, bur our D-Line is now average at best. Offense has to get us ahead quickly in games, if not, teams will run the ball down our throats.
Ugh, horrible news. Speedy recovery Devon!
On a slightly selfish note, is there anyone at PSU that could help?
Bummer. That's not what I wanted to her.
Get better soon, Devon! FIGHT ON!
Maybe he can help some of the youngsters while he heals. Teach em some technique or something. Focus on getting the degree.

Anyone know the chances of Tavai moving back to DE and being the starting SDE? I know there are issues at NT, but it would seem SDE would be more urgent.
I thought Horton was at SDE.
I think Breslin is going to be pretty nasty off the edge in Kennard's place. His JC film is sick. The big thing now is hoping that the youngsters are ready to make real contributions now.
Well, does Penn St have a good DE?
