Sweeeeeeeeeny. That's right.
Looks like my baseless speculation was more accurate than everyone else.
TrojanMind, please come and tell us all that you knew he wouldn't be going anywhere, because CLK is an incompetent running game manager and back it up with some pointless statistical analysis that you did.
I've been hoping and wishing for Tedford to be our next OC going back to when it seemed pretty clear he was going to be fired at Cal. Tedford has shown that he is not a great HC, but I really like him at an OC/QB Coach level.
I just saw that Mike Gundy from Oklahoma St. Just hired the best OC from the Division II ranks to be his OC/ QB coach. That's the kind of outside the box/innovative hires I wish we would do instead of always going for retreads. Gundy's last 2 OC's have moved on to be FBS head coaches within 2 years so obviously the guy knows what he's doing.
Gundy has it going in the right direction over there. If he could just figure out how to make one of those out of the box type hires work in the next DC he hires, they will be annual contenders to win it all.
I'm down with this option, too. We just need Kiff to give up the OC duties.
Didn't Lane do just that with the Scott Hazelton hire as LB coach last year after a couple of pretty good years as DC at a Division II school?
Sometimes, you just know when the eyes have it.
It all started with Lendak
A true test of character: I must win 10 or more, and if I call the plays (against the implied advice of the AD and most committed fans) and lose, then I am gone. Versus: If my income and job are on the line and my play calling really isn't as good as I think it is, (and leaving a clearly floundering QB in to lose our first bowl game in awhile for an entire 2nd half makes me wonder) then I prolong my income and hire an OC.
Prolong your income.
Potholes for us, Pensions for them
I will PM you Lane's personal email.
Kiff's job is on the line. And Pat Haden's reputation / image as an AD. IMHO, Kiff will do whatever it takes to win. I hear the negatives against Tedford, but all that is him as a HC. Not OC. Just like all the good things about Kiff are from his WR coach / OC / recruiter days, not HC.
Ted and CK's philosophy on offense are similar. And Ted knows QBs can develop them, and can call plays. Not saying the hire would be ideal. But do you think it is worse than having Kiff call plays as a OC next year? I wish we had better options too. But compared to last year, i'll take it. If I had it my way, i would be trying to get Petersen and his whole staff down here from boise st. If they can do that with their players, I cant see how they could do worse with ours.
But for now, we got Kiff, and he needs help. Coach Pend. and Ted are not ideal, but again, its all relative: they would be an upgrade from last year's situation.
But with USC level talent this time.

I see your point. I think it would be a lateral move. That's what I feel about CP's hire. And I'm frustrated (as everyone else is) that we're even in such a clusterfuck situation, praying for the lesser of two evils. I'm hoping for an extreme out come: Rose Bowl or a disasterous season. Nothing mediocre that establishes 7-9 wins as the "norm" during the Kiffin era. Anything that dramatically alters the course of the team for maximum long-term health and benefit.
Keep in mind, I'm always supporting this team and rooting harder than your average queen.
Join the fight for YOUR liberty!
I just have a hard time believing that getting rid of Monte and replacing him with Pendergast is a "lateral move." Is it a huge upgrade? No. But the change in itself is an upgrade. I followed the 2008 AZ Cardinal team closely and saw how much heart that D played with. The numbers don't lie from 2010 or 2011 at Kal. It's a bad hire because of his 2012 stats?
Spirit, you're like the guy/girl who bets against his/her team every weekend, so if they lose, they can say, "Well, at least I won $100." Let's hope for ONE outcome. Victory!!!!!
