Does Pola's absence last night give an indication that he's not part of the 2013 plan? Of course I'm majorly speculating, but if indeed Coach O was asked where he was and quickly avoided the subject, who knows? Haden has gone public saying that Kiffin needs to be the HEAD coach. Kiffin himself said that things could change after NSD.
If it was related to football in any way, I was thinking that he might be out trying to get some uncommitted players on the phone.
Then again, he might have had a family function of some type.
He is a part of this staff right now and honestly I don't expect that to change.
I don't want that to change either. I think it would be a huge loss for us. However, I'm not sure he's a real OC or at least the OC we want calling plays. I could be wrong and he may be the right guy. Just interested in everyone's thoughts and not trying to spread nasty negative rumors.
But it was announced why Cravens wasn't there. Just curious why they would not have made a comment about KP unless, as you say, he was at someone's home.
Cravens was at his HS signing yesterday

Yes. My point. Where was Pola, though? He was an obvious no show. Just wondering why comment wasn't made to his whereabouts.
I'm pretty sure that it wasn't the focus of any of the events yesterday.
If there is anything to it, we'll probably find out when it's time.
I personally asked Lane about Kennedy's absence from the dinner. His reply to me was that "they were working through a few things". Both his tone and body language told me that Kennedy might be a short-timer with USC. That would be a tragedy in my opinion. KP bleeds cardinal and gold and his running backs have performed consistently at a high level. In my opinion Kennedy Polamalu might be a better head coach at USC than Lane Kiffin. Certainly has a more inspiring personality and demeanor.
Wow, that's interesting. Maybe Pola is looking at returning to the NFL and that's why he wasn't involved with last night's stuff?
Agree, it would be a huge loss if Pola leaves. He's a good coach and recruiter.
I'm not 100% sold on Pola being a "great" RB coach as some people deem him to be. (based on the recent RB progress on field).
However, from a presence and recruiting perspective, this would indeed be a big loss. Would rather lose Cregg than Pola.
From the reaction I got from coach O, I probably should not have put him on the spot, But there is something there. I talked to a lot people last night and I have my own opinion, but nothing more than a guess.
Well, Pola is not going to be "the man" directing the offense. Haden basically said he didn't want Kiffin in that role. Kiffin didn't rule it out and said that if there were changes, they'd be made after NSD. Guess it's a wait and see.
I would rather have Polamalu as head coach then the guy refusing to give up the play calling.

Disagree, he's a great RB coach but we need an OC bad. You can have great position coaches and if the OC puts the players in the wrong position, it won't matter.
is it true that clay helton was offered the job of OC at Bama? i say give the reins over to helton. kiffin can always overrule. then kiff can focus on other things

Helton is not the answer at OC unless Kiffin wants to get fired by the end of next season.
why do you say that?
I think Helton would do fine as OC for us. When he was at Memphis, with marginal talent (compared to us, certainly), he finished Top 25 one year in passing, then Top 26 the next year in rushing after all of his QB's graduated. So he's not strictly a spread/passing guy. He will coach to the strengths of the players' talents.

This reminds me of all the CIA speculation, during Moscow May Day parades. on the new and/or missing "faces" standing on top of Lenin's Tomb in Red Square.

So take quite a long time to hire a DC, fire DB coach a week or so before signing day, still no LB coach, thought of an OC seems to be out of the question, and now perhaps losing RB coach. I know coaches come
and go but all this movement can't be good. WTF is going on?
Haha the King of Metaphors ^^^
We had a bad year with top-notch talent and high expectations. Things need to change. That means the coaches and/ or staff structure. Cosmetic changes won't do. CLK needs to get this done and get it done right or he's gone. Stay tuned for the details.
My guess? Problems with the HBIC. Bad management and leadership. Nothing more complicated than that.

Helton could probably do well as OC but not at USC. 1st of all Kiffin doesn't trust him to call plays for his offense. The Sun Bowl proved that. He was supposed to call plays the whole game and he got like 3 series before the MENU was back out.
Perhaps we can put a hat and a pair of arms and legs on THE MENU and THE MENU can be our new OC...
