His 40-time has been labeled and posted at 4.6, even on recent thread on this site.
He is 6’4”, like Andrew Luck, and is fast, like Andrew Luck. Clearly, I am making comparisons for obvious reasons.
I realize Stanford didn’t use him as a run-and-gun type of guy, ala Vince Young, etc. However, like Luck, do you think Wittek is or will be encouraged to tuck it and run when the coverage is tight?
I think this is valuable and can’t remember the last time USC had a veritable mobile QB. You see what an asset it is to have a guy who can turn a sack or well-covered play into a first down.
Heck, Luck is still doing that in the NFL when the play is broken or the pass is covered.
It adds a dimension that you really can’t practice for as a defense because the QB essentially makes it happen as a result of good coverage and timely opportunities.
Beyond the coaches encouraging this, does Wittek seem to have this instinct in him? Will USC foster this and utilize that 4.6 speed?
I haven’t seen enough of Wittek to know the answer, but I am more curious to see what many of you think the coaches will do with Wittek against ND and in the future, since they have such a rare combination of size, speed, and arm strength and still three full years with him.
A lil' early for comparisons or conclusions.
All we want out of Max vs. NoD is solid play and no mistakes.
Love this kid and think he's gonna crush it tomorro but there's no way in the world he's 6'4.
Cry Havoc; and let slip the dogs of war!
Like phear_SC said, he's not 6'4. Still has a canon for an arm though and is definitely built for a quarterback.
Kiffin said young quarterbacks run too soon when a play starts to break down and he was hoping Max wouldn't do that. With KIff's propensity to try to screw with the other side, I fully expect USC to come out in a wishbone or veer offense.
nah Wittek is for SURE a solid 6'4. standing next to him in person and seeing him standing next to guys like Barkley, Kessler, etc without a doubt in my mind his height isn't exaggerated.
ESPN listed him at 6'3 for the Under Armor game, so 6'4 is reasonable. I believe those are true measurements taken for the game.

I think he absolutely runs a 4.6 ... in the 30.
Probably right. I don't think any of our TE's even runs a legit 4.6, aside from Christian Thomas.
Some people throw out things to make players better than they really are .. Have SS post the times if you want the truth ..
From Bleacher Report, a while ago......4.8 40.
Not blazing, but acceptable from a QB that size. We don't want him to gain 120 yds, just a few when necessary.
Kiffin is quoted as saying that Wittek and Barkleys Mobility is just about the same.
This ^^^^ neither one broke into the 4s now all the sudden there track stars.. 4.6 is flying BTW, I know people throw it around a lot like everyone runs 4.6 but it just doesn't happen.
