I'll raise the next post I like to +2000 ... so there ...
I think we are all past that face of the team stuff.
I don't recall any scout calling Barkley a franchise type QB, (The clown show of Kiper and McShay doesn't count). Character is character. If Barkley's character is bad after his comments then Tyrann's are worse for his actions.
Barkley has not been drafted because of his skills or lack there of, not because of what he said about his coach. I don't feel bad for Matt in terms of sympathy...he made a business decision and it backfired. His frustration at having a poor season resulted in those comments and that's unfortunate but its hardly the reason he hasn't been drafted. Happens to everyone, though not as public. Heck, IIRC Jeff George shot his mouth off a hundred times but he got chance after chance because of his talent. Coaches and scouts look the other way when a guy can ball.
Must be a humbling experience for him right now but he will find a way to succeed.
We can color it anyway we want...he showed that he does not know how to handle pressure. His comments illustrated that, and his 2012 season was supposed to be his "2011 season was not a fluke season" campaign. Under that pressure, he failed. I have no agenda whatsoever. I heard Harold Reynolds on MLB Network make the same type of analogy WRT, Matt Kemp....The Face of the franchise trying to do too much, instead of just letting the game come to him.
That was Barkley last season. In 2011 he let the game come to him. Now granted he had a better Oline and a better running game. However, as a 4th year starter, and a player that should know the offense better than anyone on that teams, save for, Kiffin, he looked to blame something/someone else. That stuff does not fly well in the league offices. He may not have the current skill set that teams are looking at(the ability to escape), however, there are still teams that should have drafted him to back up their established starters. And you know me well enough by now based on our phone conversations that I do not listen to or get influenced by the "clown shows."
He had great coaching at Mater Dei...he had great coaching at USC...and he even had his own private coaching off campus with Clarkson I believe. Matt's skillset, or lack thereof rests mostly between his ears under pressure. I agree, this is a great learning experience for him. If he is as mentally strong as we hope he is, he'll still have a solid NFL career. However, to try and poo poo away the intangibles that GM's & coaches look for in their QB's(including backups) is very disingenuous.

If Matt made his comments in reference to Pete, I think your argument about the GMs questioning his intelligence and judgement would be justified.
In the case of Lane, IMO, not so much.
GMs know coaches as well as players.
Interesting you raise that point since it was Pete who has always chosen Lane. He chose him over Norm...remember that saga? He endorsed him to be the head coach at Oakland as well.
Think that one thru next time.
Who is the more respected coach?
Pete or Lane?
Stop obfuscating your own point...you mentioned "intelligence & judgement."
I'll play that game...
Who has been coaching longer?
Maybe, but until I hear a scout say what you are saying about MB I will take it with a grain of salt and stay with Barkley not being drafted based on his skill set.
Was not implying you listen to the "clown shows".
Pressure comes in different forms. MB has had good days and bad days
I do not necessarily buy into the great coaching you stated WRT USC....last season was evidence of the contrary to me.
But that's just me.
Matt is not the QB that is the style the GMs want to dance with at this time.
Not to say a pocket passing west coast offense QB with Matt's skill set cannot find a home in the NFL, IMO.
Agree on the coaching ...
I gotta go do some stuff ... you take care ...
Good thing you're not trying to pound people into believing anything.
Yeah ... but I really have to go .. family day ...
Okay. I consider myself fairly intelligent, but I had to look up "obfuscation". Great word. I'm going to use that today somehow/sometime at dinner and glance around the table to see reactions.
