Screw last season. It was an adjusment period and we were all smoking the shiz thinking we would just absorb the reduced roster without a hiccup. We've had our trial run with it and we've seen what doesn't work. Hopefully the coaches adjust this season. An easier schedule next season doesn't hurt.
Now that it's all sunk in, I'm rooting hard for Kiffin. I want to watch the guy get his shiz together and prove the haters wrong. He's young and dealing with USC level pressure is a big deal. You know he cares about the game, the kids and the University in a big way. So I believe he's going to give everthing to get it right. We also can't forget the NCAA BS he's been dealing with these past few years. Dude has landed some amazing classes at a time when many elite recruiters would never come to USC. Who else would step up to recruit under these circumstances and get these results? We're pretty lucky in that respect.
I'm not one who thinks Kiffin should definitely stop play calling. He has had his big moments, although he does have clock management issues. Maybe he should have an assistant watching the clock and his ear. But I want to see this guy go down swinging his way if he's going down. It's his thing. And honestly, who are we getting? Tedford? Pass. Nobody was complaining about Kiff's playcalling in 2011. So I'm looking forward to what he can do next season. You know the Sun Bowl chapped him. Remember the Las Vegas Bowl?
Just some thoughts on Kiffin's Last Stand.
I'm down with this.
Defensive improvement will get us 10 wins....at least. Marquis calling out the O will make a difference on that side of the ball. Everyone has a chip on their shoulder and has something to prove. Just the way we need it.
Haters, be prepared to have a bad year.
I think the natural leadership qualities of guys like Cravens, Bigs and KRodgers will have a very big impact on the underclassmen. This is like a pack waiting for the alphas to rise and lead them.
Go Lane ...
For the long-term stability of the team, we should all be rooting for CLK to succeed. If CLK succeeds, that means the team does too. That means we start building another legacy and adding more trophies to HH. Hiring new coaches always means re-booting the system. Sometimes it works out (Carroll) and sometimes it doesn't (Hackett).
Fight on CLFK! Let's rebound in 2013 and prove 2012 was the fluke!
You guys are optimistic. I think you're on to something though Fight On!
I think we have to be optimistic at this point. We should be all out of negativity after the past four months.
It's about time we turned on the positive mojo and think happy thoughts. Us being pissed at CLK and complaining about everything won't make things better. Better we back our HC and our players and hope we come out and prove everyone wrong!
Seriously speaking, i dont know if this offseason could have realistically been any worse for usc. Lost nearly half the coaching staff, lost out on each 50/50 recruit that was available, Pomee arrested, failed to sign a full class, Robey leaves early. I am definitely NOT optimistic for this upcoming year. This is the first time I have ever felt that USC is undeserving of a preseason top 25 ranking. Weaknesses at QB, CB, OL... There are too many holes in this team. I see us as a 7-6 team again.
If Colin Cowherd is correct and Haden is putting a 10 game win quota on LK, then yes this would indeed be his do or die "last stand".
However, if FK's post is correct and Haden is giving Lane more leeways and margin of errors to "make the best of the sanction"... then prepare to see that reflect on the field.
Kiffin's certainly capable of brilliance.
The kids are certainly capable of outstanding play.
The past is the past lets get behind them.
(I'd LOVE to see Kiffin stick it to the haters!)
You think this was a bad thing?
It had to be done
Fight On! Leave No Doubt.
what's this "Us being pissed", shit? maybe you and a few vocal others, but there are plenty of "us" that aren't pissed and complaining about everything. problem is when some peeps are actin pissed off and complaining, those of "us" that aren't can't tell if it's a mole from TN or OK or wherever that is here just to stir up shit= so i'll treat all negative comments like they came from TN fans with a problem towards CLFK.
recruits see a bunch of supposed "USC fans" assembled together and half of them are bitchin and complaining about the staff may cause recruits to wonder about the job security of the coach that's recruiting them. THEN, when a recruit doesn't favor "us" we blame the coach for that.
Yeah...it's the fans that caused the decommits.
I'm just trying not to have any expectations. We could blow again but we could also turn it around. Think about it. We didn't really get blown out by anybody last season. A few things different here and there and we could have had nine wins and maybe a better attitude in the bowl game.
sorry that's how you took that, but i did say "MAY cause".
how do you think it would sit in 17/18 year old kids mind that the guy sittin at his dinner table recruiting him may be fired from his job real soon? do you think strong fan support would help the situation?
This is exactly the point. Kids listened to the anti-Kiffin talk ever step of the recruiting process. Orgeron is leaving ? No DC ?
It would be really nice for this young coach to get a break and do well.
i wonder how a young Bowden or Bryant were perceived back in the day ?
I would bet, that Lane turns this thing around.
Hope springs eternal.....I'm in!!
Sometimes, you just know when the eyes have it.
Hoping we are not ranked in the Top 25 to start the season!!!!!
I don't think it's wrong to have expectations. The most realistic expectation we should have is that we (coach, AD, and team) have or will learn from our past mistakes. The defense was a GLARING problem. Monte is gone and we've put in someone who may not be everyone's choice, but has proven success. I think Kiff will go out of his way to avoid the little distractions, however, the media will jump on ANYTHING he does or the program does that can appear on SportsCenter. It's just the way it is. Sounds like there may be some changes in the organization of the offense and Kiff will be managing that differently. POSITIVE. We're going back to tackling in practice. POSITIVE.
When I was 37, I was trying to make millions, thought I knew everything, and was considered pretty arrogant (though I thought I was just confident). I was taken down a couple of notches with a forced transition and learned a huge lesson. 12 years later I thank GOD for that "event" because how I changed because of it is the biggest contributing factor to my current status/situation. This has been Kiff's wake-up call. He's staring at the abyss and this is where he finds his character (stolen from Wall Street).
I think CLK will succeed this year, and I sure hope there is no 10-win minimum that will judge him when there is so much more to success.
He'll eliminate the unneeded distractions that occurred this year.
The roster is stocked with talent.
The schedule is favorable.
Looking forward to the QB competition, and who'll be the new captains.
Can't wait for the Spring game!
