"If you want to win, you go to USC"

  • This quote brought to you by NcaaAssassin, after seeing the cold hard facts
about who from the Pac12 or the SEC has won the most against the best during the BCS era.

Trojans #1 over the last 15 years !! FTFO

    That is all.

  • Awesome stat tabulation! Thank you!

  • Thanks SofTroy

Warning: extremely long post - not for ADD types.
I'll put this chart out here for anybody who is interested. It probably will get messy and hard to read
when I post it. Sorry in advance if that happens but I don't know how to keep margins aligned on this site.

    A Few Highlights
    =============
-USC was the best in all of these categories (almost every category)
*Best Win Pct vs all bowl eligible AQ teams (60%)
*Most wins OOC and Overall vs bowl eligible AQ teams - tied with UGA-25 OOC & UF-72 Overall.
*Most AP Top 10 final rankings (8)
*Most AP Top 4 final rankings (7)
*Most BCS Bowl Wins (6) & games played (7) - tied with UF (7-gp)
    *Most seasons with RSAPI-BCS (5)
*Most seasons with 10 or more wins (8) - tied with 4 others.

Damn, that is a lot of ass-kickin by USC
this past decade and a half!

Some other interesting things are that the Pac 12, despite having 2 fewer teams than the SEC
for all but 1 of the 15 years, managed to have only 1 fewer team finish ranked in the final AP Top 4.
Plus, the PAC had 1 more team than the SEC finish the regular season with RSAPI-BCS (explained below).
Finally, the 2 conferences are nearly identical in BCS Bowl game win %.

Current membership alignment was used because it's a pain in the ass otherwise.
The 1st poster to bust out with a blue board like comment of "more useless stats"
wins free Corn Dogs for a year. Not really.

    Explanations of Headings
    ====================
vs 6+ win AQ's = 1st win % is all games vs bowl eligible AQ teams(includes conference games).
6+ w-OOC AQ = 2nd win % is games vs OOC bowl eligible AQ teams only.
AP Top 10 = End of season rank.
AP Top 4 = End of season rank.
BCS Bowls = Record in all BCS Bowl games.
RSAPI-BCS = Record Same as a Participant In BCS-MNCG at the time when the 2 participants were picked.
MNC = Mythical National Championships (BCS & AP)
10+ Wins = Seasons with 10 or more wins.

    Using Current Membership Alignment
    ------------------------------------------------
SEC - 10.1 Avg per team OOC wins vs bowl eligible AQ teams.
PAC - 9.5 Avg per team

SEC - 37 teams (2.6 Avg per team) finished ranked in the AP Top 10.
PAC - 28 teams (2.3 Avg per team)

SEC - 18 teams (1.29 Avg per team) finished ranked in the AP Top 4.
PAC - 17 teams (1.42 Avg per team) finished ranked in the AP Top 4.

SEC - 17-9 (.653) in BCS Bowl games.
PAC - 15-8 (.652) in BCS Bowl games.

SEC - 15 times the SEC had a team with (Record Same as at least 1 of the 2 Participants In BCS MNCG).
PAC - 16 times the PAC had a team with (RSAPI-BCS).

SEC - (5 out of 15) times an SEC team was not picked despite having RSAPI-BCS, but 3 of those times
another SEC team was picked for the BCS title game instead. The 4th time was 2007, when Missouri was
still in the Big 12. That leaves only 1 time (2004 Auburn) where an SEC team with RSAPI wasn't picked to
play for BCS title. = SEC (1 out of 14) or (2 out of 15 - counting Missouri) times shafted by the BCS.

PAC - (13 out of 16) times a PAC team was not picked despite having RSAPI-BCS, 2 of those times were undefeated Utah while they were still in the MWC. The PAC also had 3 years when 2 teams had RSAPI-BCS =
in 1998, 2000, & 2007. None of the 6 were picked, but realistically I would say this is 3 times shafted by the BCS instead of 6 times. But since the SEC had 2 teams picked 1 year, I guess it could be considered as 6.
= PAC (8/11 out of 14) or (10/13 out of 16 -counting Utah) times shafted by the BCS.

    SEC - 9 Mythical NC's
    PAC - 2 Mythicals NC's

SEC - 51 (3.6 Avg per team) 10 or more win seasons.
PAC - 37 (3.1 Avg per team) 10 or more win seasons.

The good ol' BCS - created, operated, and manipulated by the SEC since 1998.
