Often regarded as one of the best recruiters in the country, what are your thoughts after signing 3 DL in last two years?
Statistics have anomalies? Law of averages will even the score next year =)
(Always the optimist)
It doesn't help when people out there are spreading rumors that CEO is going to leave. Kiffin said it perfectly in regards to OOS (where many of our defensive lineman were from) dealing with negative recruiting. It's hard to ease a player who hears all these rumors at a school that could be 2000 miles away when schools close to them have a solidified coaching staff. Social Media sucks when it comes to that crap.
Not saying we don't have 3 good ones signed over last two years, but even looking back at 2011 class, the DLs from that class are in part converts from other positions.
When you have the media and other universities saying that you and Kiff are going to be fired or will not be there next year it can have an effect on the kids your recruiting!
Heyward needs to step up big time this spring.
This was discussed in another topic.
I think he is still a very good recruiter but he has lost a bit of his midas touch.
Not just this year, but last year was another example. Before Tosh bailed out on Cal, it looked as if Cal was going to go 3-0 against us on McCarthy/ Armstead/ Shittu.
I took a look at "recruited by" on the player pages.
I am sure there is a team approach to recruiting and I don't know how accurate the site is.
Interesting that Hazelton got credit for one, the old DB coach got credit for none and even Monte got credit for one.
Could you point me to the topic?
I didn't think McQuay was even a legitimate possibility until after it was announced that Monte was stepping down?
Good question ... I would be curious to know what the thinking is on Coach O by the recruits.
I guess the answer lies with them.
Ucla took 3 last year and 2 this year and took a full class each year ,until the sanctions are over ,your comparing apples and oranges
EO has a pretty good rep in regards to recruiting.
Last fall I stopped at a Buffalo Wild Wings in Jackson, TN (just east of Memphis) to watch the Oakland Raiders/San Diego Chargers monday night football game. I always look for a BWW when I'm traveling and get a bar seat and bring my laptop in and plug into their wifi so I can get on the boards as I watch the game. This guy sits down next to me and asks if I'm an Alabama fan because I was wearing Cardinal polo. I said no, I'm an SC fan. So we started to talk. We had a common topic because his son is a QB. Turns out this guy is a big time Ole Miss booster/supporter and an ex-player. He went on to tell me that he had lots of conversations with EO and "shared a few beers" with him. He went on to say the following...and these were his exact words..."Ed Ogeron is not a head coach, he can't even spell head coach, but he can recruit like no other" He had lots of high praise for EO and his recruiting. This guy was pretty tuned into the recruiting scene. He told me that the #1 recruit was going to go to Ole Miss. I questioned this because I follow Clemson a little because one of my closest Trojan friends now lives in Seneca. He said, "count on it, he's going to Ole Miss". This was before the kid had de-commited from Clemson. TW can vouch for this as I told him about it back then too. He also said that SC has a very strong chance at a LB from a school in Mobile (2014 class). I believe his name is Tre Williams? Supposedly he loves Ogeron and Kiffin. That is right in the heart of Roll Tide territory. But that is what he said.
As a side note. This guy lives east of Memphis but has put his kid (Matthew Jordan) up in a home in Jackson, Alabama so that he can be near a QB guru from the Mobile area. He is one of the highlight kids on QBcountry.com. This QBcountry/David Morris also works with our very own Matt Barkley.
Small world and an interesting evening.

"...an economy hampered by restrictive tax rates will never produce enough jobs or enough profits" JFK
Cool story. I think CEO was a disaster as a head coach at Ole Miss, but positionally he has been responsible for some great Dlineman. Will track the young LB, hope he is good and hope he comes here! 20 plus spots for next year.
