I ran this by Scott, and PM'd Josh, to invite him here to discuss not only the Matthew Thomas situation, but to also discuss any possible precedent this development may raise, and issues the NCAA may wish to address down the road.
As a sincere request, It's critical that we treat Josh as a guest, and let's keep this respectful.
We can all voice opinions, but let's remember to not take this personally, nor attack. He is part of the 247 Network, and I'm sure we all feel a rational discussion over Matthew Thomas, and principles connected to this situation, might even shed some positive light, too.
He should be joining us soon.....

No problem from me. I would think everyone would be on board.

Do you really truly believe that Jimbo and staff, not to mention Matt's mom have been clueless when we've known for a VERY long time that he has wanted out?
Josh, we've been hearing for some time that something like this was going to happen. As soon as the day after signing day.
What are your feelings about what the coaching staff will/should do? It's now out there all over the internet.
I'm told the first time he let the staff know of his intentions was two weeks ago.
Three weeks ago he was at the FSU spring game, on the sidelines wearing an FSU hat.
I find it odd that he'd make a 7 hour drive from Miami to Tallahassee if there was talks going on about getting out of his LOI.
Not saying it didn't happen, just think it would be odd.
As of now FSU has no intentions of letting him out of his LOI. That could change, but I believe thats where things stand. They should be meeting with him and his family soon.

Who is it that believes any precedent would be set here ?
Don't take this the wrong way, however, how is it setting a "precedent" when every year kids sign their LOI and end up regretting the decision? We've seen it happen here first hand. I ask that question, because your words as well as that of your board members seem to add 2 and 2 together, and come to the conclusion that Coach Kiffin has obviously been pursuing Matt after the fact. You should put that kind of noise in check because it gives the impression that you support that theory.
Thank you. We have also heard that Matthew was attending spring game and visiting FSU to see if he would feel better about his commitment.
Don't forget, Jalen Ramsey flew out to California, his request, his Christmas present, to spend out here, staying with one of the recruits (now on campus) and his family.
Kids may regret their decisions, but they are free to transfer. Allowing kids to get out of a binding agreement could turn recruiting into more of a circus than it already is.
Recruiting has been a circus since the days of PT Barnum.
The question was about precedent. Very misleading by you, intended or not.
Josh when can we expect to hear some sort of resolution to this matter. Also if he refused to reort would he be able to grey shirt elsewhere? Thanks for your insight.
Based on your relationship with Jim, if it proceeds to the point MT wants a release officially, is Fisher the type of coach/adminstrator, that would grant his request as a measure of good will, or would he be more steadfast in his decision to have Matthew keep his commitment no matter what?
If coaches allow recruits out of their LOI's, at what point does a signature become as meaningless as a verbal commitment? Does a program now have to recruit that class until they enroll?
I don't know what the answer is, I'm just saying that it leads to a slippery slope.
Two examples; Seantrel Henderson and Glenn Stanley, who ironically we released to FSU.
There is no new precedent whatsoever.
Thomas is free to go wherever he wants at anytime, however, I believe he would have to sit a year due to transfer rules.
I have no idea when this will end. I'm told Thomas' mom returns to the USA tomorrow. She's been out of the country for a few weeks. I'm expecting FSU to meet with them in the near future.
I don't expect FSU to let him out...but who knows what will happen until the two sides meet.
exactly. Also Delvon Simmons being released by UNC.
So you basically have just restated everything that we already knew way before any of this broke, what are somethings that you are not telling us with regards to all of this? Or is everything pretty much out of the bag?
Exactly. It seems like a precedent was already established by USC and FSU.
This has some definitive merit.
I know based on the anxiety of sanctions, etc., USC alumni, fans and supporters of Trojan Football, breathe a sigh of relief, when an EE sits his butt in a classroom chair.
Kids have been let out of their LOI since forever. Once again, why is Kiffin the guy interfering, however, Richt at Georgia is not? Some of our "concern" is with the way you're handling this on your board. You are allowing that perception to fester. It's very unprofessional in my opinion.
Most of the recruiting is done by the recruits nowadays. These kids stay in constant contact with each other even after they sign at their respective schools. Why don't you educate your board members on that aspect instead of blaming Kiffin for cheating? Because indirectly you are supporting that notion.
