Pulaski is the team that rarely punts (3 times in 3 years) and almost always onside kicks. Doesnt try to block or return punts.
They just... stand there and let the ball bounce around?
I guess the odds of blocking a punt or having a big return is much smaller than either roughing the punter of fumbling the punt. In high school, I would have to agree, with at least this part.
Yeah I live fairly close the Pulaski academy. 2 years ago they got 7 consecutive onside kicks in 1 game. They will go for it 4th and 20 from there own 10 yard line. They have mire talent than almost every team they play which allows them to do this.
What I read is that they expect to recover 33% of their onside kicks, not because of suprise, but because the practice it a lot, plus talent. The coach also said that when he used to kick it deep, the opposing team usually started about the 34 yard line, when they don't recover the onside kick the opposing team usually gains about 13 yards, starting on the 47 yard line.
