Just saw it on the ESPN crawl...as reported by Andy Katz.
Should be interesting to see where PH goes now.
Clear downgrade from Howland.
LOL @ Bruin fans that thought they were getting Pitino or Billy D

@GoodmanCBS: Steve Alford has agreed to a 7-yr deal worth $2.6 mil per yr at UCLA, sources told CBSSports. UCLA will pay his buyout.
Hahah, and of course UCLA manages to not pay blueblood money.
Not a downgrade at all.
Pat better pull something out of his rear end because fucla just pulled in a winner.
I agree. This was a good hire for fUCLA...

Really. Yea he had some good years playing in that crappy conference but do you remember his Iowa teams. Total fail on ucla part. Their fans are on total meltdown mode right now

Alford has been to the Sweet 16 twice last year and in 1999.
A brief perusal of one Bruin site seems to show an underwhelmed attitude...but its early yet.
The dollars aren't that different when you take in the difference in CoL between NM and L.A.
They dumped a guy who went to 3 straight Final Fours for one that had a sub .500 conference record in the Big-10
There's no way UCLA fans were expecting to have to reach down to Alford's level.
Just reading about his Iowa history now. Perhaps I spoke to soon...
Does UCLA know Steve Alford is 5-7 in NCAA tourney? If he couldn't handle heat in Albuquerque, how will he deal with it in LA? #Hoosiers

LOL @ this tweet-
@JeffEisenberg Dan Guerrero refers to Steve Aflord bringing "up-tempo" style. New Mexico ranked 239th in possessions per 40 min this yr.
It's a good hire for them.
I agree. Alford was adequate at Iowa but won only 1 NCAA tourney game and endured an embarrassing loss to northwestern state in the 1st round as a 3 seed. The Hawkeye fans still revile him to this day. New Mexico was an ideal job for him, little pressure and the fans bought in to him...both fucla and Alford will regret this. On the bright side, if USC can bring in a good coach, the balance of power could shift to the Trojans!
Alford took SW Missouri State to the sweet 16 in 1999, but new Mexico lost to Louisville in the 2nd round last year...so 1 sweet 16 appearance as a coach.
I wonder if this puts Ucla in the running in the Aaron Gordon sweepstakes, since his older brother played for Alford at New Mexico after transferring from UCLA. Would be a major coup for bRuins if Alford got Gordon.
