Now I know what a leading candidate for the Heisman looks like.
Johnny Football may be Johnny Heisman before he is done.
Kid seems to have all the skills...including...leadership.
"...an economy hampered by restrictive tax rates will never produce enough jobs or enough profits" JFK
I don't know how to phrase this without it sounding as a knock on Manziel, but I'll say it anyway.
It is easy to lead when you are winning with ease.
Let's see how he handles a coaching change, two season bowl ban, scholarship restrictions, and a national media intent on burning the program the ground.
That is the test of leadership. Leading while everything around you is literally, on fire.
Awesome football player though.
Johnny Football, Mariota, and Hundley are all probably looking at playing at least two more seasons of college football.
It's going to be an exciting time to watch dual threat QBs in college.
We could potentially plays all 3 QBs in 2015. Bc we get A&M , UCLA, and probably Oregon. Thats if they stay until they're seniors
"If this was a prize fight they'd call it off"- F ND!
There is absolutely no way manziel stays for a fifth year. Probably not Hundley either.
I can see where that might have been construed to be a knock on Matt. It was more intended to say that I think that Johnny Football has the Heisman to lose the next two years.
I will be the last person to knock Matt Barkley. What he did transcends sports. If you believe in Karma? He has a whole big helping of good stuff coming his way. Personally, I believe you make what you get. And if he keeps making the same decisions in life, he will be immensely successful in whatever he does.
I came to "the boards" originally in 2001because I heard from someone that "USC Fans" were bashing Carson Palmer pretty bad there. I didn't believe it. I was wrong. I created a handle at that time (end of his jr. year) that said plmr4heisman. I got a pretty good load of sh!t initially for that handle...but got the last laugh.
Since then I have seen "the boards" throw a number of USC QB's under the bus. Booty, Sanchez, Corp and now Barkley. Leinart was probably the exception but how do you complain about 39-2?
I think Matt did a fine job. Especially under circumstances that very few have ever faced...and those that have faced it...usually left instead. My opinion is that there were other factors that let this season down from the high expectations we had. One being the high expectations.
Matt Barkley should be held in very high esteem and great regard when considering the great players that have played for USC throughout time.
Big "if"......as in if his style of offense takes off in the nfl. I could see Johnny Heisman playing in a Chip Kelly scheme, but he doesn't plug in well with most of the nfl offenses. His deep ball isn't where it needs to be and he isn't that big (6-1, 200).....although he has a size 15 FOOT! He may grow, and he thinks as fast as the nfl game....you can see this in his field awareness.
If he pulls the running qb routine in the nfl, I think it's a matter of time before he gets ripped up (RG3).
I will say this, he is a complete joy to watch. Not since Reggie have I been so amazed by a college athlete. Rewatched the second half of the game last night and every one of his drives was a TD and he flitted around and threw AT WILL. Granted, it was a down Oklahoma team, but he is awesome. Maybe he does head for the nfl, but could he have the same impact as RG3?
F I G H T O N
I think JM has the makings of a great QB. NO ONE thought RG III could make such an impact immediately. It was all about Luck (and rightfully so given Luck's collegiate career, system, etc.). Yet here we are in the playoffs with RG3 leading the Redskins against Seattle.
Join the fight for YOUR liberty!
Upvote for you good sir!
I know it's waayyyyy early but I was checking out some 2014 mock drafts and they got him as the top pick. He is draft eligible after next season since he'll be 3 years removed from HS as a rs soph. If he has another great year I don't see why he'd stick around.
They are crazy
I love watching him play, but no way in hell is he a Number 1 pick for any GM that wants to keep his job
His arm is at best, average, especially on deep balls and he is small
The comparisons to RG III are laughable IMO
RG3 has thirty pounds on JM and still cant stay healthy
The only NFL guy dumb enough to use the first pick on him is Jerry Jones so I guess there is that
