It really does. Who is the last saftey we had with ball skills like Max? Its been awhile.
This. Plus, per a mod on TOS-R, the two best WRs in Cali from this year's class, Mitchell and Cravens, are already on board.
Does that mean no 6 wr sets next season?

Hahahaha we are going to be so low at the position! We will ONLY have Robert Woods, Marqise Lee, George Farmer, Devon Flournoy, Victor Blackwell, Nelson Agholor, Steve Mitchell, Darreus Rogers, Eldrige Massington, Sebastion LaRue.
Don't get me wrong losing Max sucks. Just glad he did it now instead of doing it in late January. SC can't be left at the altar with scholarship limitation.
We might have WR but who with that size? Massington with the acl and George not really hitting his full potential yet, I say we could use another option for a big body WR. Any time u can get a player that can be good at mulptiple positions I think that is always preferred.
My point was Redfield is a damn good safety and he has a lot of versatility. Almost to the degree of Cravens.
Darreus Rogers says buenos dias
I hope you are right about Rodgers.
Sua won't let Redfield go
The bigger issue is that the rest of our safeties on the board are more of the strong safety type whereas Redfield is a free safety. Not as easily replaced as you might think - and this is a loss - and I hope we get him back.
Cry Havoc; and let slip the dogs of war!
I just hope he can stay eligible...
I agree, but kinda disagree to an extent. We want max bc he s great and he is in our backyard. But i seen film on him and mcquay; we are not losing anything with max out and mcquay in.
Honestly, its MUCH easier replacing safties than it is replacing those 3 techniques and defensive ends. Bigs and Vander would be WAY bigger loses. Max, it hurts, a little, but we are still more than fine without dude.
LOL at downvotes for knowing the difference between a strong safety and a free safety.
honestly, i wanted mcquay more than redfield all along. redfield should play wr at notre dame. mcquay is the better safety imho. fight on!
You make a good point. There's a difference between objectively evaluating a player's skills and having our feeling hurt because someone isn't 100% sure that this is where home is....FOR THE MOMENT. Things can always change. If he goes somewhere else, good luck and hope our class can be placed in better and more effective positions so we can actually STOP someone next year!
I thought Mcquay was a free to? He has the best coverage skills I've seen of all the safeties.
This Brian Kelly????

We need to bring in more explosive, quick twitch, ball hawking type of S. We need guys that can get picks and beak on the ball. We keep getting guys that are more in the box types with OK coverage skills or guys like Starling that aren't really ball hawks or great in the box type guys.
Do you guys think its over with Redfield? It seems like there is a spot for one of the 3 but if Goodman or McQuay jump that's the last spot in the defensive backfield right? My 2 cents is that he goes to Oregon. I think if it were a Notre Dame thing, he would have just pulled the trigger for them at the same time he decommited.
The difference between Redfield, McQuay, and Goodman at this point in their athletic careers is pretty small. Its more about what they do when they get to campus. McQuay and Redfield are both super high character guys (don't know much about Goodman, he might be too). You guys are right on about whoever wants to be there is the best.

Say ain't so. You think he's going to Oregon. Redfield not pulling the trigger to ND doesn't mean anything. Redfield feels like he rushed committing to SC and not taking his time. So why would he rush it now with a couple months till NSD?
I wouldn't bet on Max going back to SC but I hope I'm wrong.
Everyone stop it.Max wasn't ever going to play defense for USC.The real reason he is decommitting is he wants to play Wr. Good luck to him and one thing that was noticeable at the game Saturday the recruits didn't bother with him and because I sit with the recruits they all new what his plans were and it has drawn all of the Cali kids closer so thanks Max for making the recruits become a very, very tight.Best of luck to him in his life.
