The kid does go against the best.. Rising star is not the only camp.. But if you have a prospect like Chris who gets invited to all of the top camps and Then SC ask him to pay what would you do... The kid is not running from anything.. but he is one of the top players in Cali and the nation and should have an invite to rising star camp and if he doesnt I wouldnt go..

Are you sure players on his level have to pay?

    BlemBlam3

  • We are waiting for coaches to tell us that we don't have to pay.How about that.We don't run from anyone.Right now we are ruining track and just posted fastest time in the state in the 300 hurdles so fast its early do we are just trying to keep improving on speed and coverage every weekend with B2G.My boy just wants to go to school where he is wanted. We stay humble and we are glad that he was recognized by the US ARMY ALL AMERICAN BOWL as one of the nations best at his position.

  • One more thing me and chris would like to thank all the Usc supporters of Chris and his football career. We hope that we can keep you guys with Chris and his career where ever that may be.With that being said and not having a offer we have made a choice Scott to move the Stanford Cardinals to the top of our board Scott. So you can make them hot..Also new offer from Ole Miss friday.

As an SC fan that makes me sad to hear, but as a Chris Hawkins fan, I'm happy to hear. Good for him. I hope we offer soon....hopefully not too late.

  • Awesome to see a parent care as much as this one, but im going to be completely honest and say there is an entitlement thing going on here and its unfortunate.

Im going to talk directly to you Ham, your son hasnt even played a senior season of high school football yet. We are USC, please try to put things in perspective here.

Is your son a great prospect?, id say thats evident by the offers, army selection, etc...

Like others have mentioned, look no further then this years class to see a guy like Scott Starr who wanted to be a Trojan, didnt get offered again and again, he kept working, bam got his offer and is now an USC fan favorite.

What about Devian Shelton? Screw 18th hour, try last tick on the 23rd hour. This is a kid from Inglewood, a USC fan who was rumored to even show up on his Oregon st visit wearing an SC sweatshirt. He took advantage when the opportunity presented itself and didnt let pride or ego get in tge way of his dream, to play football in that USC Trojan cardinal & gold.

Now that he's a trojan, and countless others are not that wanted to be, do you think hes having any trouble feeling wanted?

I know its easy to get caught up in all of this and getting recruited by so many schools feels great but I hope you can see the big picture and no 1 student athlete is bigger then the vehicle. Some of our most recent troubles have been due to some personalities felling themselves a little too much and having real entitlement issues, to me thats a red flag.

I hope you guys enjoy this process, and I hope you guys can keep grounded and realize that an offer from USC in these times (sanction era) should be held in the highest regard no matter when it comes. And hey, if it doesnt work out stanford is an amazing school so you cant go wrong,

    Fight on Ham & Fam!

  • Boog, great post however we are not entitled to anything in life. Our cards are on the table. What troubles me most is when a school any school thinks its okay to hold kids hostage because of the kids and his families love for the school.Red flag you used Davion shelton as a example and I think a bad one.As a father of chris I will not allow recruitment to go on all the way up til signing day. Also if our school really wanted savion we would have given him a scholarship in the first place. He was only given a solorio when we began to lose out on kids to other schools. That being said its nothing wrong with him not wanting to leave home and play for his dream school. But just doesn't work for me and my family.Once again things can change when these kids get to the schools but my advice is go where they want me. How you see entitlement in not having a USC offer so moving Stanford to the top of the offers he does have I don't get.Fight On...

  • It's only March, a whole 11 months away from signing day. Patience is a virtue. That being said, good luck to you and your family

Boog, I think you're taking it a little too far to say that the Hawkins Family feel that they are entitled to an offer. They know the restrictions that SC is limited to right now and need to think what is best for the Hawkins Family. Chris has over 20 solid offers presently and of those Stanford presents the best situation of those. Place yourself in Ham's shoes and pinning your hopes on the one offer you really, really want, but don't get. Kind of a let down, right? Why jeopardize your son's opportunity elsewhere? They gotta take care of the Hawkins Family first and can't afford to hold out any longer. Nothing he said was disrespectful and they will always remain Trojan fans, no need to criticize. This kind of crap gets into the family's head where they feel betrayed by an entire school. They don't feel they're bigger than any program and understand the process.

This should probably remind most of you of Van Ginkle(s) and their similar situation.

Please don't take this as applying to Chris Hawkins, I just want to point out that sometimes you have to trust the coaches.

Everyone on the old board was screaming for the staff to offer Jake Van Ginkel and when we got Heidari to commit instead, people were not happy.

How did it turn out? Heidari looks like the best young kicker in the country and is poised to have a great career. Boise State had a bad year kicking the ball, and Jake Van Ginkel didn't even get a chance. Boise was only 2/4 from under 30 yards and missed 8 extra points. They wouldn't RS him if they felt he could improve their kicking game.

In contrast, Heidari made 50/50 extra points, was 7/7 from under 30 yards, 4/5 from 30-39 yards, 3/4 from 40-49 yards, and 1/1 from 50+. I think it's safe to say that the coaches made the right call in that case.

I disagree with you, respectfully of course. I don't think boog said anything that took it too far. He was being respectful just as Mr Hawkins has been. Its a sad situation, but there is nothing any of us can do other than to let it play out. As for the hawkins' they have to do what's best for them. I've said it before, I how we offer before its too late.....

I agree with you, its still early, I meant too late as in the ship has sailed and the Hawkins want nothing to do with SC.

I've taken your posts exactly how you meant them....I'm a proud parent as well, and my kids come before anything else in this world. I think they're great, and appreciate those that make them feel wanted and welcome..it's all relative.

We're nothing more than fans here, talking about kids who's parents have sacrificed years of time, money and scheduling their lives around practices and attending games and camps. The players and family have zero privacy, and the kids are publically assessed and scrutinized, in the classroom and on the field (almost like a piece of meat), you have to be tough to get through this process, but that doesn't mean you're going to wait around for an offer from one particular school when you have so many out there already.

Unless you've actually been through this, we can't intelligently form any opinions of how the process should be handled by any player or their families...just like our own kids, every one is different, coming from different places.

You're a credit to this board, Mr. Hawkins. Your posts were very clear to me, and I'm sure, to any big time fan who is also a loving, proud parent. We just need to view this through the eyes of a parent, not just a fan.

  • Havent been online the past couple days so im just reading the thread now, I.just wanted to make clear I made no disrespect and I think Ham could sense that, at least I hope.

I hope it works out, which it will because your son going to Stanford wouldnt suck at all. That said I hope you guys practice as much patience as you can and try not to feel disrespected by the process and tge tight numbers the coaches are dealing with.

Again fight on and best of luck with this next year.
