Chris Hawkins Is A Hot Prospect

    Not sure if I like that attitude.

    Well awat did say it was hawkins dad making that comment, not the kid himself. I'm sure the coaches would love to bring in a stud at a position of need as an EE. So I guess we'll find out what they think of him pretty soon.

    His Dad said he will not got to rising star camp because he has nothing to proove with having over 20 offers...

    Seems like he would want to go up against all the best in the west to see where he stands. Surprising reason not to attend. If the school he wants to attend is in the 20 offers then he's right, he has nothing left to prove. If it's not then maybe he should reconsider.

  • The kid does go against the best.. Rising star is not the only camp.. But if you have a prospect like Chris who gets invited to all of the top camps and Then SC ask him to pay what would you do... The kid is not running from anything.. but he is one of the top players in Cali and the nation and should have an invite to rising star camp and if he doesnt I wouldnt go..

    this has nothing to do with attitude.. This is the kids future and he is already willing to give up half his senior year to go to SC. That speaks for its self... You are looking at it from a fans view which is different from a parent or players perspetive..

    Ok, this is more information then you previosly gave. Is it a cost issue or an invitaion issue? Before you made it sound as if he choose not to attend becuase he has nothing to prove and now it sounds like he is choosing not to attend because of cost or he doesn't have an invitation.

    Which is it? Nothing to prove? Cost? Doesn't have an invitation?

    BTW, I'm not badgering your or the recruit, just trying to understand the situation.

  • at Junior Day they ask them to come but wanted them to pay.. That is why Mr. Hawkins said there is no reason to come/prove anything.. Things change daily, chris is a great kid and loves to compete, but this guy is top recruit and should have a invitation to the camp.. Chris and tahaan will do there thing at Rising star camp

    I hope i cleared it up about the camp... Like many people say the parents and the kids read the board

    Yup yup. This needs to be emphasized. I know it's great to enroll at college early but there is a lot of fun in those last months of high school. Prom, graduation, seeing your friends, etc. If he's willing to give up that to become a Trojan, that shows great dedication.

  • AWAT, thanks for the additional information. A lot of moving parts but I think that I get it now. I hope he does end up going to camp and I also hope he gets an offer to USC.

  • Let me as Chris Hawkins dad clear some things up.1st off we are life long Trojan fans.Usc is a dream school for chris and we attend every home game on our own money not even with recruit tickets.We entered this recruit processwith one school in mind, that being Usc.As a fan I knew that we were going to have a loss of scholarships so I began to prepare my son to be able to enter school early because as a family we knew this should secure a offer from the trojans.We are aware that Usc has to go after out of state talent as well.We also know that Usc still has three scholarships from last year that weren't used because Stanford out recruited Usc for the local kids from Cali. At some point we have to stay during our home grown kids more love.Chris had 20 offers and all but four are from Cali.Don't think for one minute that the schools out of state that have offered this cali kid have not already extended offers to their own.Hours many early enroll kids are out there with a legit chance to play at Usc, especially comebacks.So to help all the die hard fans, we have decided since ashlee chris to finish out his senior year of high school since it was not a priority of Usc to extend him a offer.Also to address camps Chris not because he doesn't want to but because of scheduling and money will not attend the Usc rising star camp, however he is on the most prolific 7 on 7 teams in the world that being b2g elite so if the trojans want to see him in shirts and draws football they can all summer long.He was also the first kid to sign up for the Nftc camp on april 1st so they can check that out.Fight On!!!!!!

    Thank you for posting, sir.

    I commend you for having the foresight to prepare your son to be an EE, as that would seem to be hugely advantageous to USC in the current climate of limited scholarships and would be a great way to distinguish your son from some of the other players out there.

    I would have thought that would be a difference-maker, and am a bit puzzled that the staff hasn't offered Chris yet.

    I understand the need to get on the radar screen very early with OOS kids, as they won't even take SC seriously without an offer, and the vast majority won't end up coming here anyway. It's sort of like ante-ing up in poker- the offer is just to get in the game with these kids from SEC country.

    But although I have great faith in the staff and their overall recruiting strategy, I do wish they would start making some more offers to the in-state kids.

    And I hope you son is one of them. I hope he gets an SC offer very soon.

    Thank you for posting your honest thoughts. It's always great to hear what parents have to say about the process.

    Welcome to the board and please keep posting. Hopefully we'll all be talking soon about Chris getting an offer and committing to USC.

    Good luck with everything.

    //

    PS- If USC offered soon, would you and Chris still consider having him enroll early ? Just curious.

    Thanks again for posting your thoughts.

  • The answer is yes.But as parent if the university doesn't react to the fact that he is a EE kid that kind of send a message.A offer for chris isn't the same as a offer for other kids because its not counted the same way.As a Usc fan I would sit on this board and say the kid should just sit back and wait on Sc.As a dad that happens to be a Usc fan my views are different. He has some great orders that kids would kill for, Stanford, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Michigan,Cal and possible today Oregon and Lsu so why shouldn't he be able to enjoy the love from those schools instead of racking his brain about Usc. Fight On!!!!

    The EE aspect is what immediately jumped out at me when I read your post.

    I have been saying since NSD that I hope they take 4 or 5 EE kids this year because if one or two are JUCO transfers, we have seen with Wiley and Bowman how tough it is for JUCO kids to get all their credits lined up in time.

    Even though the 4th and 5th scholarship would count vs the 15 in 2013, I'd like to see the staff take three high school players as EEs, and then if they want to add a couple of JUCO guys, there's no scholarship consequences if the JUCO kids' credits don't add up in time.

    Outside of a QB like Max Browne, and rumors about Ty Isaac possibly being a potential EE, I haven't heard of any other HS kids who look like surefire EEs. It would take a lot of pressure off the staff on the EE front if Chris was filling one of those EE slots.

    //

    The only thing I can think of is that the staff has focused most of their early evaluation work on OOS kids knowing they had to make offers very early in the game to even have a shot at getting some of those kids to visit, and as a result are behind on evaluating CA kids, as it seems like there are a number of outstanding CA kids besides your son that the staff has said they want to see more of (Vanderdoes, Fitts, Goodman, etc).

    They know that most of the OOS kids aren't coming, so they don't need to worry about over-offering those kids, but I think with 15 scholarships/ year, they are being cautious with how many offers are out to CA kids at any one time as they try to figure out how to best meet the team's needs.

    I really hope they offer Chris soon, as his talent, EE status and passion for the team would be a great combination. He sounds like he'd be a great Trojan, so I hope it all works out soon.

  • Now this is an interesting comment. Since we only have 3 EE's to hand out, if we cannot get other players to fill those EE's slots, do we reach for a kid just so we can fill up those spots? (Note: I am not sure if Hawkins is a reach or a stud).
