Brian Banks exhonerated

  • As is seen here on this board, I would not be surprised to see the Trojan Family open up their arms to Brian.

The man firmly stated his innocence and never wavered...he has been vindicated and, hopefully, we call all stand with him to help get him firmly back on his feet.

  • This story is am American tragedy. The whole story is absolutely disgusting. This lying POS for a human being totally ruined this guy's life. It makes me sick to my stomach. This greedy sociopath took a decent kid and totally screwed him over for money. I hope they hang this bitch. They should fine her and send her to jail for about 20 years or so. I hope that USC reaches out to this kid and perhaps gives him a special academic scholarship so he could get his life back together.

USC should be able to give him a special scholarship, and the NCAA should let him play football without counting against the scholarship limits. Some compensation for what he's lost, and what he would have had if it were not for the lying girl.

That is far to reasonable and in the interest of the Student-Athlete for the NCAA to go for that.

I think the best we can do from a University perspective is give the kid an academic scholarship or special grant so that he can get the education that he was promised almost 10 years ago.

It's the right thing to do.

It wasn't too difficult for her to prove it when it didn't happen.

Since the charges are vacated, does that mean that his stay in prison gets expunged as if it never occurred? And can he now legally say he's never been convicted of a crime on job apps, etc.? I hope so. Poor guy got totally ripped off with this whole thing.

Yes his record will be expunged, but who can forget an experience like this?

    Done:

    "President Nikias –

I am writing to you after reading an article about the terrible plight of a former USC football recruit, Brian Banks. I am sure that you are familiar with this story as it has made headlines all day today. This young man was a promising young athlete and student that had football scholarship offers from many Division 1 Universities, including USC. He was accused and convicted of rape shortly before graduating from high school, which derailed his plans to attend college and play football.

The fact surrounding the case had always been a bit murky, but Brian maintained his innocence, even after he was convinced to take a plea bargain. This story took what can only be called a fateful turn recently, when his accuser recanted her claims that Brian raped her. In fact, she admitted that she had made up the story and not recanted earlier in order to keep the sizable financial settlement with the Long Beach School District.

Please know that I do not know Mr. Banks, nor have I ever met him. I am writing out the sheer outrage that I feel after seeing a bright, promising life snatched away by self-serving machinations. Basically, this young man’s future was destroyed out of greed.

I feel it important to ask for the University to consider a special scholarship for Brian Banks. I think it is the least we can do to help him put his life back together. He is still a young man and can still do great things. Perhaps, not on the gridiron, as he had originally planned, but great things none the less. The University of Southern California has a stellar reputation for reaching out to the Los Angeles community and help its own people. As a resident of Long Beach, and someone who dreamed of wearing Cardinal and Gold, Brian Banks is the epitome of that Angeleno in need.

Dr. Nikias, I appreciate your time and consideration to this note and urge you to continue to Fight On for the entire Trojan Family, including those whose dreams to attend the University were cut short.

    All my best,"

Rape is already hard to prove. One of the lessons I remember from my criminal justice classes is that rape is one of the hardest crimes to prove. But who wants to take that chance

  • I'm not even going to lie, I've never heard of Brian Banks before this thread....and the ESPN article only helped a little. So I asked a LB Poly grad friend about the incident and he emailed the link below....and now I get it! My biggest confusion was him being "committed to USC after his senior year of football" as the ESPN article states...but that wasn't the case. He gave a verbal commitment to Pete Carroll after his sophomore year....and the false rape accusation happened shortly after....that's why I, like most of you, have never heard of him. Anyway, click on the link....there's even a picture of the ugly wench in there.

  • Crazy story.
Best to this guy. Fight On !!!! It would be great to see Brian Banks get some type of special scholarship from USC or something and even get back on the field as a Trojan one day. I doubt the NCAA would let SC do anything like that though. Never say never though.

Man, just to see the guy playing in the fall at an area JC in the fall would be great and maybe the way to go? Think how stoked he will feel just to put on pads again and play some ball if that's what he wants to do.
Wow. 6 years in the clink over some hootratbitch's BS. Oh man. Well Brian Banks will be OK and hopefully stronger in the mind having gone through this kind of thing. Tragedy happens and in all types of weird ways in one's life, hopefully he can see that at a young age and overcome and have a kickass life going forward. God Bless him and guide him to turn all of this into a positive in his life as best as possible. Glad the truth came to light .
    Thats all
    Fight On !!!

    Adding to your information...

    president@usc.edu

    phaden@usc.edu

    dunnh@usc.edu

These e-mail addresses should work. The first is obviously for President Nikias, although I'd guess it's not his personal e-mail. I sent an e-mail there and received a reply, so somebody reads the e-mails. The other two are both for Director Haden. Heather Dunn is his executive assistant and her e-mail address is listed on the USC athletics website as the e-mail address for Director Haden. I've used both and received a reply from the phaden address.

Will you add both CLFK and Coach O's email too? They were both around the first time the young man was being recruited. Perhaps they can use their contacts to help, Brian, if USC is not in the cards for whatever reason.

    Thanks, Joe.

  • From the USC Athletic Directory:

Lane Kiffin: kmccowan@usc.edu (Kyrah McCowan, Lane's executive assistant)

    Ed Orgeron: orgeron@usc.edu

Also, it's not listed, but given how the e-mail addresses seem to be set up generally (but not always), lkiffin@usc.edu might work also. mkiffin@usc.edu is Monte's email address.

  • Here is what is even more sickening. If this happened 10 years ago, there is a pretty decent chance she will not face any criminal penalites for filing a false police report or for perjury in her civil lawsuit. I suspect the statute of limitations for long gone. The school district's statute of limitations for fraud may have been tolled until it reasonably should have discovered her testimony was false.

    Unbelievable.

  • I sent an email to Dr. Nikias and ccd the rest of the names. One of things I remember about being at USC was how great they were in tailoring my education to my needs. They went the extra mile. They really showed me that they cared and were very inclusive. I hope this has not changed. They have in their power a chance to change this young man's life around. Additionally, what a great PR move this would be for the school.

Yup. She's probably going to get off scot-free. No prosecution and likely no attempt by the LB school district (or its insurers) to recoup the settlement money.

"More recently, Gibson has backed off her recantation, Brooks said. Nevertheless, when presented with the Innocence Project's findings, Los Angeles County prosecutors agreed that the case should be thrown out.

"It's not our job to maintain a conviction at any cost," Deputy Dist. Atty. Brentford Ferreira said. "It's our job to do justice."

He said prosecutors had no plans to charge Gibson, saying it would be a difficult case to prove.

Same experience here Bill, that's one of the reasons so many love this university..and so many of our fans have bought into that love. All that can, please e-mail as well.

I'm sending e-mails when I come back this afternoon.
