Do they really think putting an ez-up over that place is going to make day games in September or October bearable? Seems kind of pointless.

As long as ASU is in Arizona, everything about it is pointless.

Only way this is an improvement is if they make all their fans sit on the sun shade.

Otherwise, it will always be a hole...

Why should they? USC and the media deal which, around these parts is made out to be what pays for each and every upgrade for a program, has little to nothing to do with the upgrade to SDS.

What does, is a bill signed by Gov. Brewer in 2010 that sets up a tax district around the University for which funding goes directly to the stadium renovation project and other athletic facilities.

"The bill, officially signed in April, allows the Arizona Board of Regents to set up a district on ASU property to collect revenue from local businesses, said state Rep. Warde Nichols, R-Gilbert, the primary sponsor of the bill.

Even though the measure was designed to allocate money for maintenance and renovations for all athletic facilities, the initial target will be the football stadium because it needs the most work, he said.

The stadium needs an estimated $215 million to $350 million within the next five to eight years to remain open, Nichols said."

A media deal doesn't go very far for $350M in renovations.

I totally agree with this. Back in the 70's, the Vikings were nearly impossible to beat late in the season and playoffs when they played outside at the coldest venue in the NFL. Bud Grant wouldn't even let them use heaters on the sidelines. It was hell on fans and opposing teams, but the Vikings' players adapted and used it to their advantage. If only they could have played the Super Bowls there, they would have a few championships. My older brother, who was a huge Rams fan hated Minnesota because they beat the Rams so many times in the playoffs in the freezing cold.

I'm not sure if Arizona State has that big of a home field advantage due to playing outside in the heat, but they are much more prepared to play in the blazing heat than visiting teams, and they need any advantage they can get.
