Commiting to CAL today is not a big deal?

That's how I'm going to act.

We have a VERY good shot at a national title NEXT year... no pipe dream or 5-year plan needed. Once the doors close Feb 1, recruits are either on the SC express train to win this natty, or they can take the scenic route on some other train. In other words, get on board or get the hell out of the way. weights

  • Every school loses players to other schools. What's the big deal. Get over it. LSU just lost a recruit to Bama and I bet they aren't crying.

The key thing is to get him away from Arik, Aziz, Jordan, and Shaq. Before he got to San Antonio SC lead for him, but after a week of hearing were building something special at kal now he's a kal lean.

I agree. No disrespect to teenagers, but they are dumb and easily influenced. Like Murphy comparing USC Stanford and Florida in terms of great academic institutions. Stanford is 1, SC is not that far behind, and Florida would not be considered in the top tier. And as for going pro, or going to Rose Bowls, or any BCS game for that matter, USC is clearly the better choice. All this building something at Cal biz, its BS. I will go on record to say: So long as Tedford is the head coach, they will always be a mid level Pac 12 team, NO MATTER how many of these good recruits they get. I think kids are too dumb to realize that though. Tedford is a DESCENT coach bit not a championship caliber coach. Since Cal had enough kids leaning towards them at the game, easy to influence their peers.

Skivvies with better elastic and a more snug fit could be a good idea.

I assume the opposite--that most kids being recruited by Cal, Stanford, ND and USC are probably some of the smarter recruits out there. They are likely putting a lot of thought and analysis into their decisions with the guidance of their family and coaches. If they want to go Cal, it's their decision.

There are too many posts here that personally and explicitly attack our recruits as being gullible or stupid. They are teenagers, just like every other recruit and every other high school student selecting a college. USC does not need to negative recruit and we do not need to be concerned about what other recruits are saying about their own schools.

    Good post.

He's the best DT to come out of SoCal in a while, so yeah it's a big deal where he signs. It's a little delusional to say otherwise. But as others have mentioned, we did bring in a huge DT haul last year plus have Kenny Bigelow for 2013, so while Ellis is a big recruit, USC will be fine if he does in fact sign with Cal... which is hardly a guarantee.

Ultimately, the big picture is this: USC is still USC. Cal is still Cal. No matter how many DL recruits they pile on, USC has MUCH more talent up and down the roster combined with MUCH better coaching. Top to bottom, our class will still be better no matter how much voodoo magic Tosh works now, and once he gets a better job the recruits will dry up for Call just like they did before he arrived.

Will it suck if McCarthy signs with Cal? Yep. Will it do anything to change the power dynamic of this very one-sided rivalry? Nope.

I don't think Mccarthy is the best local dt in a while. Uko is better. I am fine with him going to Cal.
