USC just needs to get him on campus. That means making him hold off on committing before an official or unofficial visit. ND is still likely his leader, but once he sees USC and gets comfortable with it, I think he will end up here.

And still doesn't compare to life outside of football, or after football for that matter. To be fair, the ND network is very good, but bias aside......look no further than Lane Kiffin...."USC is a VERY powerful place."

Not be a downer but the factors that make us confident that guys like Redfield and Goodman will ultimately sign with USC in spite of flirting with LSU double as the same ones why I have a really tough time buying Smith going anywhere but Notre Dame when it's said and done.

Get him to campus, and things could change but in the here and now, the chatter on twitter doesn't mean much of anything IMO. He's icing on the cake if we can get him; if we can't, Hutchings is all we need at LB this year regardless.

Not a violation if they are friends or have met. If that were the case Woods tweeting Agholar last year would have been violations..

My understanding is that if they had a preexisting relationship, then it's okay. I think that's what happened with the Michigan recruit/players a couple of months ago – one of the players was a former high school teammate with the recruit – the other was not.

I'm not sure just having met is good enough. If that's all it takes, then after one visit to a school, everybody who "met" a recruit could start recruiting him.

Stupid rule, IMO, but it's been publicized for a while now, and has occurred at Notre Dame. I have no idea whether Manti and Smith are old friends.

Agreed If I'm a recruit I would be wondering who would be their next coach.But do you really think that schedule is easy?There are probly 5 pre-season top 15-20 opponents.Navy is in Ireland and Miami in Chicago but the rest are in the regular stadiums.It could get ugly.
