A Disastrous Day For The Trojans

Jermaine Kelly

USC offered Kelly a scholarship today

Where do the Trojans go from here after a disastrous signing-day eve?

    • Thanks Scott as always, there is a little hope with Tahaan and now Priest after reading this article; http://www.azcentral.com/sports/preps/articles/20130205marcos-de-niza-priest-willis-will-not-sign-with-ucla-wednesday.html

Well, you did say USC's class would look much different.

Disappointing day, but we'll strap it on and see what happens manana.

    • When you stop and just think about it, only Ramsey was the shocker. Hatch has been stepping back and forth over the line and we have all known about for a few weeks already and Prevot has been rumored gone for over a month.

So as of right now it's just Jalen that is the kick in the nuts. We were probalby going to lose Hatch and Prevot anyway.

Doesn't make it any less painless at this late hour, however...

Maybe what he means is HIS academics. He knows that somehow ASU will find a way to keep him eligible. Look at their "phenomenal, amazing success" with Vontaze Burfict.cyclops

This is what really sucks. None of them, even Ramsey, are entirely surprising.

    • This is the strangest , if not the worst day, I can remember in modern Trojan recruiting hx. The class that landed Freddie Crutcher and Ken Reutgers back in the day was pretty small and disappointing, but this is bizarre and off the wall. The Trojans need bodies on the dline. If things go the way it looks like they are going, USC will have brought in a grand total of two Dlinemen in two years----I don't care what anyone says. That is totally unacceptable and will lead to more and more problems. And there are not enough bodies coming in on the Oline either, or so it appears.

Maybe, just maybe, some of this will change the way SC recruits and how roster balance is viewed. Out of state guys are nice, but when they make up a huge part of the class, bad things might happen. When I read that CA has no talent this year or that year, I cringe. That is NEVER true. Some of the very guys that USC passes on for bigger OOS names have often come back to haunt USC. I am not saying SC should not got OOS-----only that the majority need to come from CA where SC can stay on them all the time and keep up the relationships.

Think about what's up now. USC can't seem to GIVE AWAY RIDES WORTH somewhere in the vicinity of 250K, can't seem to give them away. Something has to change both on the field and in the recruiting process. And oh BTW, it might not hurt to fight the corrupt NCAA along the way. Just maybe if that had been done, this mess would not have occurred today. MJD

    • All true ... but if just the guys who committed were to stick, it would be a darn good class. It's not like the coaches had a pipe-dream list of targets. The guys actually committed!

    • Howard:

Yes they committed, but in this day and age, that does not mean much. There simply has to be a plan B when so many commits, are taking trips anyway. IMO, any commit who still trips is not committed. There is no way any traveling kid can be counted on. Others might disgree, but in 2013, a kid who trips is not really ruling out another school. I know others will disagree, but that is my opinion. MJD

very few of these true freshmen would have much of an impact this coming season. we'll have a 10+ win column this year and a few of these guys will be sorry that they changed their minds. next couple of years will see a new crystal ball in HH.

      Thx Scott. Appreciate the 411.
A shitty day it is. I thought Jalen was solid. But with the sanctions, shake up in the coaching staff, and us just plain sucking this year, I am not surprised to lose soo much of these talented players, especially from out of state.

Someone else said it but its time like these when we should focus more on the in state or local talent over OOS kids. When you are winning and look good, yeah, all the OOS kids want in on the goods. But when you suck, I think its the kids that grew up watching the program that really helps you get thru the hard times. Honestly, a lot of these kids prolly committed to SC early on bc the program looked attractive and was coming in ranked 1 after a 10-2 season.

It'd be nice to get J. Kelley, but I cant blame him if he dont come. We chased so many out of state kids and come after him last. How is that boy supposed to feel, USC didnt want him until the others said no. Completely understand if we cant flip him from Wash.

Maybe Tahaan and Priest are last min pick ups, who knows. But we got to finish as strong as we can, say fuck em to those that dont want to be a part of the squad, and the just play good, hard football in the spring and in the fall.
