The Latest On Sebastian LaRue

Sebastian LaRue

Numerous schools have visited LaRue in recent weeks despite his commitment to USC

Find out what LaRue has to say about USC, which schools have visited his school and had an in-home visit, his plans for January and more....

    • Fight on Sebastian ! Poor kids name gets drug in the dirt and he still is sticking to it.

Altho at times my man does sound like he is interested in other schools, more than he is USC (e.g. T. AM). That is why the FB recruiting system is BS. It should be like basketball where there is an early signing period so slots / players can have their positions confirmed. And those who are not sure, they can sign in Feb, with the chance that the school they want to go to, is all filled up. The flipside being if a school does not know for sure if they want a guy, that school could lose out bc the kid early signs with another school.

The FB stuff is bullshit, and it is not fair to kids. Many kids know where they want to go but cant do anything but say "commit" which dont hold water. A kid could really ant to come to USC, get bumped for whatever reason, and has to scramble for another school. Basketball has it right with respect to this issue.

    • Do you mean like Eldridge Massington? cyclops

      draig

    • Pretty impressive statements and hope we have a spot for him at the end of the day. Sounds like he realizes it's a business though and how the sanctions have impacted us so greatly.

      NBTrojanPres

    • Like the kid, would hope he can make plays for us rather than against us.

    • He just went from being someone who people weren't terribly upset at losing because of his prior comments to being someone everyone wants to stick around with one simple, humble, statement:

"I'm happy with my decision to commit to USC, but I think USC is going to have some tough decisions to make at the end of the day," LaRue said. "We'll see how that all plays out, but at this point I'm solid for USC and happy with my decision."

    • I like this guy. Some of his earlier statements gave one the impression that he was simply holding his spot at USC while waiting for something else to open up.

But, he was simply keeping his options open just in case. How many of our other commits have also taken visits?

I like the fact that at this late stage, he is "commited to USC" without any other visits planned.

Our coaches don't seem to be prioritising him, guys on the message boards are dissing him, yet he is holding firm.

      No drama, a good soldier.

I am really pulling for this guy. Fight on Sebastion.

    • This is why I was unhappy with the way Lane was cavalierly giving out scholarships offers a few months ago.

Good for him, I'll be rooting for him. I don't know what's gonna happen if one of those OOS 5 stars commits though...

I think you are exaggerating the scholarship offer. Lane can't run the numbers neat, he has to offer more players than he has room for. The thing that probably surprised Lane was how quick he committed. I'm not saying he can just go out and offer the world a schollie offer and have his pick of the litter, but cavalier is a bit strong.

cavalier? Top class in the country

    • is LaRue truly coming in as an athlete? My guess is that he is immediately put at corner. Does he want that? I wish we had 25 scholarships in that we wouldn't be chatting about LaRue. As most fans, I think we have a surplus at wideout. We have Rogers, Farmer, Angolor, Blackwell and Flournoy on the bench. With superstar Mitchell coming in. LaRue could become a stud corner for us, yet we have Ramsey and Hawkins coming in who are taller.

If we had 25, we would be gushing over him. Now, we wonder whether we could get another defensive lineman, linebacker or offensive lineman in that we have holes in other spots on the team.

I hope that the staff tells LaRue that he is coming in as a corner. Then LaRue can make the decision based upon his position. Its all due to the 25 man roster and his comments in looking around. Texas A&M was after him hard. Many schools would...he is 4 stars and would most likely be one of their top recruits.

I remember wanting guys like Bumpus and Polk to decommit. Then they went to WSU and UW and starred. Thats the risk you take.

Oxy, you've been around a while so I really dont follow your comment.

"Cavalierly" implies Lane acts frivolously and without due care, concern or consideration iin his recruiting efforts.

Synonyms (Merriam-Webster): assumptive, bumptious, arrogant, chesty, haughty, highfalutin (also hifalutin), high-and-mighty, high-handed, high-hat, huffish, huffy, imperious, important, lofty, lordly, overweening, peremptory, pompous, presuming, presumptuous, pretentious, self-asserting, self-assertive, sniffy, stiff-necked, supercilious, superior, toplofty (also toploftical), uppish, uppity.

There is not one shred of history or current indication that Lane is cavalier in his applied strategies in recruiting. Quite the opposite, in fact.

We're under severe sanctions and can afford absolutely no mistakes in recruiting. In a business where art and science go hand-in-hand it is absolutley imperative that USC fill every single slot with the very best we can land. Has not Lane diligently tried to do this? And done it well?

What would you suggest he do instead? Offer only 15 scholies and pray that everyone we offer also wants to be a Trojan? Should I list all the misses we've had, inspite of Lane & Staff's efforts?

You know how this works. It's a numbers game. Every program on God's green earth makes anywhere from 3 to 5, even 6 times the number of offers more than they have spaces to fill.

Why would SC be different? Why SHOULD SC be different?

Maybe you meant to use a word other than cavalierly?

He knew that he only had limited spots, and gave one to LaRue after that impressive camp where he also offered Mitchell. He had previously offered Massington.

Wide Receiver seemed like a spot where Lane could have been slower to give schollies.

Obviously, Lane is NOT cavalier as a whole in giving out offers. But right around that camp, he gave a few and I remember cringing just slightly that it seemed to early to give 5 offers in a week, when there were only ~15 to give for the whole year. Before and after that camp, Lane, like Pete, has been very cautious in offering scholarships. Clearly Pete and Lane have made USC the cream of the crop for nearly a decade in being conservative and not pulling offers. And last year, Lane gave Mickens and others plenty of warning on his pulling rides.

But I would have preferred he never made the offer so early, when it seemed then and even moreso now, that he'll have to pull the offer. It's bad publicity we can't afford, and I hate when these guys (like possibly Massington) go to our rivals and play with a chip on their shoulder and beat us (see Oregon State a few years ago during the Booty years). My two cents.

Without a doubt the best class. Which is why we didn't have to offer LaRue in the first place so early in the process. Only to later *possibly pull it.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion.

For my part, I have no issue with our staff offering whoever they want, whenever they want and for what ever their reasons may be ... including playing keep-away.

Recruiting is 100% on them and they have infinately more insight, experience, information and skin in the recruiting game than any of us have or ever will.

      Fight On.
