He just went from being someone who people weren't terribly upset at losing because of his prior comments to being someone everyone wants to stick around with one simple, humble, statement:
"I'm happy with my decision to commit to USC, but I think USC is going to have some tough decisions to make at the end of the day," LaRue said. "We'll see how that all plays out, but at this point I'm solid for USC and happy with my decision."
Fight On!

Oxy, you've been around a while so I really dont follow your comment.
"Cavalierly" implies Lane acts frivolously and without due care, concern or consideration iin his recruiting efforts.
Synonyms (Merriam-Webster): assumptive, bumptious, arrogant, chesty, haughty, highfalutin (also hifalutin), high-and-mighty, high-handed, high-hat, huffish, huffy, imperious, important, lofty, lordly, overweening, peremptory, pompous, presuming, presumptuous, pretentious, self-asserting, self-assertive, sniffy, stiff-necked, supercilious, superior, toplofty (also toploftical), uppish, uppity.
There is not one shred of history or current indication that Lane is cavalier in his applied strategies in recruiting. Quite the opposite, in fact.
We're under severe sanctions and can afford absolutely no mistakes in recruiting. In a business where art and science go hand-in-hand it is absolutley imperative that USC fill every single slot with the very best we can land. Has not Lane diligently tried to do this? And done it well?
What would you suggest he do instead? Offer only 15 scholies and pray that everyone we offer also wants to be a Trojan? Should I list all the misses we've had, inspite of Lane & Staff's efforts?
You know how this works. It's a numbers game. Every program on God's green earth makes anywhere from 3 to 5, even 6 times the number of offers more than they have spaces to fill.
Why would SC be different? Why SHOULD SC be different?
Maybe you meant to use a word other than cavalierly?

He knew that he only had limited spots, and gave one to LaRue after that impressive camp where he also offered Mitchell. He had previously offered Massington.
Wide Receiver seemed like a spot where Lane could have been slower to give schollies.
Obviously, Lane is NOT cavalier as a whole in giving out offers. But right around that camp, he gave a few and I remember cringing just slightly that it seemed to early to give 5 offers in a week, when there were only ~15 to give for the whole year. Before and after that camp, Lane, like Pete, has been very cautious in offering scholarships. Clearly Pete and Lane have made USC the cream of the crop for nearly a decade in being conservative and not pulling offers. And last year, Lane gave Mickens and others plenty of warning on his pulling rides.
But I would have preferred he never made the offer so early, when it seemed then and even moreso now, that he'll have to pull the offer. It's bad publicity we can't afford, and I hate when these guys (like possibly Massington) go to our rivals and play with a chip on their shoulder and beat us (see Oregon State a few years ago during the Booty years). My two cents.
