Marqise Lee has breakout performance against

Marqise Lee at Junipero Serra

This time last year Gardena (CA) Serra safety/wide receiver Marqise Lee was thought of as basketball player playing football. But as the year progressed and Lee had outstanding performance after outstanding performance, he slowly became a football prospect most of the schools on the West Coast were familiar with.

During the off-season when college coaches received Lee's 2009 highlights, he began getting offers from many of the top programs in the nation. Florida offered, Michigan offered, LSU offered, Miami offered, most of the Pac-10 schools offered, except USC and UCLA.

Some believe the reason USC and UCLA didn't offer was Lee expressed a strong desire to leave California for college in every interview he did.

Last night, after another stellar performance by Lee against Notre Dame (two 55+ yard TD receptions), FightOn247.com caught up with Lee to talk about the decisive 34-7 victory over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, which schools he's still interested in, if he's had a change of heart with his desire to leave the state for college and more...

    • After watching Marqise Lee of Serra on TV, I'm thinking he's a ``gotta get'' guy. Multi-talented. Even though he's a ex-Bruin and his daddy helped beat SC out of the Rose Bowl in 1965, Altenberg deserves tremendous respect for the program he has put together at Serra. Yes, he gets good athletes, but he also knows how to coach them. Best, Loel Schrader

Edit: You need new reading glasses!! Setta?? Ha ha

Yeah, Scott has done an amazing job of building what's becoming a powerhouse high school football program. And he knows I cover USC recruiting, but he's always been incredibly generous with helping me out and getting me what I want. His players love him, too. Not because he kisses their butts either, cause he can be tough on his guys. They just know he cares and that goes a long way.

        • Young Marquis is quickly becoming one of my favorites of this class. Hopefully his academics are in order and USC can extend that scholarship offer and bring the boy into the fold.
