September 1 rolled around and college coaches around the country took full advantage. The date is significant in recruiting as it allows coaches the chance to place one call per week to a prospective student-athlete.
Saguro high (AZ) star offensive lineman Cyrus Hobbi took several calls yesterday. The 6-foot4, 285 pound offensive guard holds at least 20 offers from major programs such as UCLA, Arizona State, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and more.
"Yeah quite a few schools called yesterday," stated Hobbi. "Washington, ASU, UCLA, Oregon State, Michigan, and a few others called that I missed. I just got back from Oregon State on Sunday. I'm also leaving for Washington in a week. I also have Nebraska set for October 16. The rest of my visits will come after my season is over most likely."
Hobbi has been hesitant to name any favorites up to this point. He still has not made a list, but noted those showing interest are under heaviest consideration.
"All the ones that called today are the main schools," said Hobbi." Cal, Nebraska, and USC too. I have pretty close contact with those coaches and now I'm just looking to see where I will fit in best. I want to really evaluate those schools on my visits and I will likely announce after my season. I may announce at the Under Armour game, I'm not sure. I'm just ready to get my season started, hit someone in a different colored jersey."
