2012 Dorsey WR/RB Jaydon Mickens Commits to U

USC may have lost a football game to Washington on Saturday night, but they gained one heck of a football player in junior Dorsey WR/RB Jaydon Mickens (5-9, 165), who attended the game.

"After the game I went into the locker room and I was talking to one of the coaches, and he said he liked the way I played," said Mickens. "He said they liked the way I did everything in football and wanted to give me an offer. So, right then, I committed. The offer from USC is something I have always wanted."

Mickens talked about a few of the reasons the Trojans received his commitment so early in the recruiting process.

"They've had a lot great players come out of there and they have a drive to be the best, and I want to go there and try to be the best," Mickens said.

USC had two verbal commits for the 2012 class before Mickens committed in Arik Armstead and Jordan Payton. Mickens says he knows Payton and a few of the 2011 USC commits.

"I know DeAnthony Thomas, Marcus Martin and Antwaun Woods," said Mickens. "Jordan wasn't at the game, but the other guys were and when they found out I committed, they treated me like family and embraced me."

Now that Mickens has committed, he was asked if planned on doing some recruiting for the Trojans?

"Yes, I do," said Mickens about whether he plans on recruiting for USC. "I'm going to try and get a few kids over there if I can."

One of those kids is former teammate and current 2012 Crespi OL Jordan Simmons.

"I don't know if Jordan is going to commit to USC, but I would love to have him there," said Mickens. "It would be great to get Jeremiah Allison over there, too. He's talking about how it's a great school for academics and football. And that's what I like best about USC. It's a great degree and means a lot."

The USC degree is obviously a huge reason Mickens committed to USC, but there was another big factor involved.

"USC is right down the street and I just feel it's best to stay at home," said Mickens.

Through three games, Mickens had 13 receptions for 231 yards and a touchdown.

USC is recruiting him as an athlete.
